Got 12,842 steps in today.

I've thought about trying to run, but my knees keep saying NO.

For those who might be interested in joining this thread...

I think it is important to remember that it doesn't matter where others are in their fitness journey. Do not focus on that - focus on where you are.

If you're not walking at all right now, then a simple walk to the mailbox and back might be your starting point. If you have disabilities or injuries, you might want to start with walking in a local pool. It really comes down to trying to JUST GET MOVING every single day.

roadie four 4. rode a loop second time around learned that i could do a grade i had been doing in first ring in second ring. my legs feel better under a heavier load maybe because you're squeezing more blood out? came home and adjusted upright to match road bike i.e. seat up an inch and all the way back. did 5 mi. in 16:33. 3:19/mile, my goal for now is 3 minute miles on upright at least.

the 20 minutes it took me for 4 miles on road were nice because you get to coast for half of it. felt a lot more confident in the saddle tonight. must have dreamed about it last night. still learning to manage the shifters. only balled it up once, was able to bail myself out in the nick of time. went by a mountain biker who wouldn't even say "hi". arrgh. first thing i thought was how fat his tires are. maybe i can catch him on the road later in the summer for nefarious reasons. i aint dead yet.

glwilso8, you so mean. LOL. Ya, da coasting is good on the road.
I was going to put my bike on the trainer this evening since it rained all day, but since I went to town to pick up new pair of prescription safety glasses, buy 2 new pair of Carhartt overalls, and take BH's camera to the camera shop, and get home with only 2500 steps, so I decided to walk instead. I put in 12,500 steps after supper and am now at 15,255. Getting started was the hard part the rest just flew by with the Travis Tritt and Aerosmith on Pandora.....and now my Garmin is telling me to move.

So true, when I started just walking for exercise, I was breathing hard just waking down to the mailbox and back. It has been several years since then, but still today, I try to just do what I know I can do and then occasionally push myself to do a little more. A little more today may be another 10 miles on the bike, but it wasn't long ago that was just another 100 steps.

i'm with you folks. i limped and squinted all the time until i got on the bike. had to used a foam roller to break up the adhesion in my quads. that hurt. now i walk pretty good. its been a long time to where i am now with a lot of forgotten pain on the way. this may sound counterproductive but, it seems like it was good to discover i was pre-diabetic. your legs are your greatest asset in the fight against insulin resistance. move 'em!
