Default My 1 year stats

Last week was my 1 year anniversary of having diabetes. It does suck now and then especially when I have time to think about wjat the future may hold. That being said if I didnt have D and stopped to think the future can suck too.

So this last year I have done numerous things to change that thinking and make sure my kids, age 4 and 21 months, have a father for a long time.

1. I took control of my bg. I went from an a1c of 9.7 to 5.7. Im pretty proud of that.
2. I have lost 70lbs. I was 285 at dx amd am now 214. My kids have seen me shrink. My pants are now a 34 waist from 40. Some friends even make fun of.my new jeans.and call them skinny jeans.
3. Totally.transformed.my eating habits. I went from fast food 3-5 times a week to once and a while. I eat veggies every meal and before that the only veggies I got were lettuce on a burger or sub. My kids see this and now ask for them.
4. Started being more positive in all situations. Look at the bright side, there always is one.
5. Started to try to be like my kids. They dont look at tomorrow or ten years from now, they only look at now. What q great concept that is. I let things happen and react when it does. No point waiting for an outcome that may not happen.
6. I have learned to love life and appreciate what I have. I even appreciate getting diabetes. It has forced to think and be like I am now.

Life is good people but it does have a lot of roads blocks and speed bumps. Just wait for them though because they may not come or they might. Never know. Keep on track and you can sometimes speed through them without a problem.

This post is such an irony because I'm getting bloodwork tomorrow and have been reflecting on my first year also - the blessings along with the P$(%U#$UT.

I especially love your #5 "Started to try to be like my kids .." Such a wonderfully rich thing to strive for - maybe even better than a few lower points on an A1C

Kudos on a year well-challenged, and well-done.

Doesn't it feel so good to be in control of your D and not the other way around. You have given your children the best present ever. Congratulations.

Congratulations! Isn't it great to learn how tasty veggies are? I was amazed when I got off the carb cravings.

Number 5 is the main one maybe I should have put that number 1.

Thanks everyone. This forum has taught me more than my D educator and doc. My doc did tell me that my numbers are.the best she has seen from any type 2. I told her to come here for a day if she wants success stories and to see the effort people give. It is a very inspiring place.
