I am doing a lighter version of LCHF and so far no meds. I was just wondering.

I am Canadian, supplements are expensive here. I have a drug plan so any meds I do get are covered 80%. So if Berberine only works as well as metformin, then financially speaking, I would be better off on meds.

Just to clarify Metformin is a DRUG whereas Berberine is not. I have been on Metformin for many many years and want it GONE. Berberine claims to lower the blood sugar, lower BP and cholestral . Do some research on Berberine.

Yes I know metformin is a drug. Metformin would be covered under my drug plan. Berberine is a supplement and therefore not covered. My question is why people are trying to get off the drugs that might be covered, only to end up paying out of pocket for a supplement. (for those that have insurance obviously)

I think this is just one of those personal preference things.

What works for some people, might not work for others.

I've never tried Berberine, but it may be a case of getting the BG benefits of metformin, but without the digestive system upsets. And probably well worth the price difference to those whom metformin creates much discomfort.

Well I am really hoping so. I have ordered my Berberine and so very much hoping I will be able to cease with the Metformin medication. Fingers crossed for me.

Thanks mbuster - I never thought of the side effects of metformin

I'm taking berberine.....when I think about it. I have to admit I'm not always consistent but my question is do you take with meals or after meals? Or does it matter? I can't find the directions on the bottle.

The instructions on mine say to take it with a meal.

My local supplement shop gave me some samples of this that I tried for a few days.

I liked it enough that I decided to buy some tonight.
