Just wanted to let you know that I have indeed taken this advice and it's working...so thanku! Also as soon as I get up I find putting my excersize gear on,including runners, is a good way for me to "have it in my face" even if it takes me a few hours to get up there and do it!!

Ummm No I am sad to report that I did not do the 150mile 2 day diabetes ride this year.

1) we had a VERY wet spring (I will NOT ride on wet roads)
2) we had a very cold spring (I cant ride if the temp is under 60)
3) my work kept me away from the club rides that I use for training
4) I lost desire to support an organization that states that I became
diabetic because Im fat and lassy.

I guess any excuse will do.

This very much describes me. I suspect a lot of us are this way.

I know that there are a lot of comparisons to other addictions. And for me cheating is like an alcoholic having a drink or a drug user using a drug "just once". I just can't do it. In fact I did do it and gained back most of the weight I was so proud for taking off. Thankfully I did get back on track and have lost the weight and reduced my BG back down again.

If I ever figure out what motivates people, I will be a happy billionaire. I have a person in my life that was a heroin user. Thankfully this person was able to quit and has been clean and sober for 6 or 7 years now. Through seeing his experience, the subject of motivation to quit has fascinated me. Without telling the long version, I determined that a lot of motivation comes from hope.

What has motivated me is having seen my father pass at the age of 75 with a poor quality of life for at least the last ten or fifteen years of his life. I am determined to live a longer, healthier life. I have proven to myself that there is a very real hope for that.

There is always hope. You just have to be able to see it and want it. As with so many things, it is the brain that gets in the way of hope. Its psychology. Don't expect that motivation will simply come your way. It is not like it just has not come along for you. It is there, your brain just stops you from acting on it. Don't let the brain do that to you. You have to not think and just do.

As soon as I figure out how to give everyone hope and the resulting motivation, I will give the secret away here but sell the secret to the other 7.5 billion people on the planet.

In the mean time, the ideas from itissteve are totally awesome. I think with both diet and exercise, I have been doing the Seinfeld chain without realizing it. It drives me crazy if I have to miss a day of exercise.
