As many of you already know, I tend to have an "all or nothing" type of personality. It's for that reason I don't have cheat days, cheat meals, or even a "taste" of something that isn't KETO friendly.

Unfortunately, that carries over into my fitness goals as well. If I walk EVERY SINGLE day, I do well, but missing a day can throw me completely off track. I have no clue what goes on in my head that makes this happen, but once I find an excuse to miss a day (for any reason) it is that much easier to miss another and another.

Somehow, I lost my motivation to just get moving. Since I work online, without an intentional decision to walk, I can easily track less than 1,000 steps a day. With or without diabetes, that just isn't (in my opinion) a healthy lifestyle to be living. Even with daily heat indices in the triple digit, I have to find a way to get motivated again.

How do you find the motivation to just get moving?

For me, the biggest incentive to keep moving is that I feel better when I do. Not only does it help regulate my BG and boost my metabolism (OK, a little, I'm not Michael Phelps ) but it makes it easier to climb stairs and shovel snow and pick up my grandchildren without pain.

It seems, though, you know this innately. It's just a matter of keeping momentum once you achieve it. So I'll mention two of my favorite techniques for continuing to -- umm, nibble away -- at "projects".

One is called "Seinfeld Chains". It's named after Jerry Seinfeld, the comedian. He realized that he wrote better jokes when he wrote more, so he tried to write every day. To keep himself motivated, he put an X on the calendar each day he spent his time writing. X X X X, day after day. His mantra was "Don't break the chain" -- if you're feeling a little unmotivated and want to skip a day, you break the chain. So you find the time and do the work. Keep the chain as long as you can. Determine if your "move" is half an hour of walking (or more, of course) or 5,000 steps or whatever. But don't break the chain.

The other technique is "Five Minutes". Tell yourself that you have to get up and do whatever it is you want to do (walk, housework, exercise bike) -- but you don't have to do it for more than five minutes. 300 seconds and you're done. The secret is that once you hit the 5 minute mark, keeping going is not that hard. You can quit -- but you probably won't.

I hope those help.

The last few days have been lacking motivation. No problems once I'm up and going, its the getting up part that is hard.
