I found that R-Alpha Lipoic Acid was a significant help with my neuropathy. It is the only supplement that I have ever taken which provided discernible results from the time I started using it.

It actually tempered the severe pain I experienced after beginning insulin. It did not take the pain away, but it did make it noticeably less intense. After doing a lot of research I decided to take it as it promoted the healing of the protective coating on the nerves damaged by high blood sugar. In other words, it helped to repair the damage causing my neuropathy.

In all the research that I have done regarding this supplement I have never seen it referred to as anything other than helpful and valuable. It is a necessary component that is already present in your body. All of my doctors, including my retinologist, were very supportive of me taking this supplement even though none of them actually told me about it. They all said that it would be of benefit when I told them I had started taking. I understand that it is standard practice in Europe to prescribed this for anyone with diabetes and has been for a long time.

I started taking it about a year ago, maybe a bit less. I've stopped taking my lyrica and am doing well. I take one 600mg pill in the morning.

Type 1 diabetic with a list of other problems. Migraines, extreme anxiety, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, back pain and pains that pop up and go away at random. Many of these issues I've had since I was young.
Boyfriend with his own health issues, the biggest being Crohn's disease and pain from a broken back when he was in his early 20's.

Just an update:

Of all the supplements I have tried, these 2 HAVE remained on my list.

The only thing I have changed is I do take a higher dose of the Alpha-Lipoic Acid now. (600mg)
