Hi..

I am a under weight , very thin Type -2 , trying to gain some weight through LCHF. The profit of LCHF for me is that I am able to stop 2 medicines and i think that i can control my D with LCHF only( i'll try without medicine in April) .
The depressioni is no improvement at all in weight gain. 6 months before i was 51 kg and today also i am 51kg.
I tried going to gym to build muslce but i scared when i tested BG right after workout it spiked a lot. most of the day my BG stays between 100 - 110. i heard people who wants to go gym should use insulin before workout.
any suggestion to workout without insulin would be appriciated.
any suggestion to get some weight would be appriciated.

Some people have success gaining weight on lc/hf if they eat more of the higher calorie foods like cream cheese and heavy cream. If you use sweeteners, there are some low carb dessert recipes here that are pretty high in calories.

You are doing really great with your numbers. Good job.

you will most likely get spikes lifting weights. Im afraid that is perhaps the first hurdle you must overcome. Spikes dont/may not have to be large. Mine only goes up 1mmol at most. The benefits outweight the temporary negative. And to gain weight you just have to eat more calories

This is just a thought - not a type 2 myself so I'm definitely not an expert - perhaps someone else could confirm/disprove my idea? What if you ate something carby just prior to exercising, not too much but something like a banana or a couple of dextros, I'm thinking that your exercise will handle those carbs and that having some sugar already available might prevent your body from making its own.

Since your eating LCHF diet now I would push it even further until you become ketogenic. This should reduce some of the extreme spikes since your body would be relying heavily on fat rather than glucose. As the previous poster suggested eat something before exercise, even a spoonful of peanut butter can have a dramatic effect. If your inclined to use supps you could look into D-Ribose. It helps your body make and store glycogen.

Most of us do LC/HF to maintain or lose weight. I don't think the diet in itself will build muscle so you can gain weight. To do that you need to do tons of weight bearing exercises in the gym. The difficulty lies in that by the time we are dx'd many of us have lost insulin producing beta cells. Many diabetics find it hard to build significant muscle without insulin on board. I have been diabetic for 5 years and have lost some muscle. I work out 1-2 hours most days to prevent losing anymore. A lot of type 2's when they add injected insulin, they gain weight because their body is able to use all the glucose from the foods they eat. Also you may want to increase the fat and protein in your meals.

Is there any disadvantages in increasing my carbs with proper insulin dose untill i gain good weight ?

i eat lots of animal fats,cheese and butter.i drink 22 gram of protein shake with 3 gram of carbs right after workout .

what should i do ? is there anything i can improve ?

I would think making sure you were getting ample protein more so than more carbs to build muscle. What is your daily protein intake? Should be 1.5-2.5 grams per kilogram lean body mass. Timmy should be able to better advise and correct my numbers if I erred

I eat almost 40 to50 grams of protein.
