Those of you who know me, know I am pretty passionate about my coffee.

I almost always start my day with KETO coffee. (Also known as bulletproof coffee.)
  • 2 cups of whatever brand coffee I happened to buy that week.
  • 1 tablespoon of Kerrygold butter or some ghee.
  • 1 tablespoon of Brain Octane Oil or coconut oil, depending on what I have on hand.
  • Some heavy cream.
I blend it all up in a blender. Sometimes I even add a squirt of whipping cream on top.

I tend to test and question everything.

Last week I started to realize that I don't notice a difference in how I feel using coconut oil vs. Brain Octane Oil, so I am questioning (for myself) if it is worth the added cost.

(Neither impacts my blood sugar.)

I am going to test MCT oil as a replacement for the next 30 days.

If I still don't notice any difference, I will likely return to the more affordable coconut oil.

Personally, I wouldn't touch MCT oil. Coconut oil is a product of nature. MCT oil is a product of chemistry and corporate greed. After they bust CO apart in what's called hydrolization, one of the things they remove is lauric acid. This is one of the most sublime ingredients of CO and rarely found elsewhere in nature except in human mother's milk. Did they remove it because we're somehow better off without it? Heck no. They removed it because it's valuable and they can make more profit selling it off to other industries and then hype up "MCT oil" as somehow better. Win-win for them.

Thanks @smorgan I was wondering what MCT oil came from - couldn't find the answer with a quick search. But did notice how expensive it is.

Sounds like a lot of work for coffee. I love my coffee and I drink 3 large cups every morning. I add 2-3 table spoons of HWC, a bit of artificial sweetener...and I am off to a wonderful day!

What I am picky about is what 'coffee' I use! I used to buy Starbucks but on a trip a few years ago I went through a coffee plantation and manufacturing plant in South America. When I walked into the operation I saw a very Large Six Sigma flag on the wall. I worked in manufacturing most of my life and I know that when a company uses Six Sigma principles, the produce high quality products, efficiently.

So we bought some to bring home, it was wonderful This company has a distribution operation in Florida that ships throughout North America. The coffee we get from them is wonderful, a bit more expensive than stores in the USA, but well worth the price to us. Anyone interested here is their website...

Thank you for the recommendation to Cafe Britt!

I only go to that much trouble for my 1st cup of the day, after that, I just drink regular coffee and cream. It helps me with dawn phenomenon because I am not hungry when I wake up and if I don't "break my overnight fast" my sugar keeps rising until I eat.

Update on this experiment.

For me, I don't notice the difference between MCT oil (I tried a few brands) and a high quality coconut oil, so I no longer use MCT oil.

That may change later on, but not at the moment.

my bullet proof is only a mere imitation.

I take 8oz of coffee from a french press. Then I add 1tsp butter, 1tsp coconut oil, and 1 tsp 35% mf cream.

i've never used a blender, just a spoon.

and I've never used MCT oil because I havent gotten around to buying any.

in the hospital, i just added 1tsp coconut oil to black coffee. it looks a bit like the exxon veldez oil spill, but I'll drink it. I guess that is what matters.

NSDad126, that is is exactly what I thought it looked like the first time I made it and still do without the blender. It actually tastes good if you just do not think about.

When I told my physician that is what I put in my morning coffee his eyes just about pooped out and he said "coconut oil is the worst thing you can consume ... absolutely horrible". My response was "don't knock it; my blood values, sugar and BP are all going in the right direction". He just shook his head in disbelief.

Best,
