I would like to know everyone better and step away from my diabetes for just a minute. Where are you from? Job? Family? I'll start.....

I've lived in Ohio(USA) my whole life. I'm married to my wonderful Prince Mikey for 15 yrs. 3 beautiful daughters. Megan 21, Allison 19, and Emily 18. I live with and take care of my elderly father. I am a Social Studies teacher to jr high and high school emotionally disturbed and alternative students. So ready for summer break

My daughter Allison is in the Navy stationed on the USS Bonhomme Richard in Sasebo, Japan. I also have a nephew in the Army stationed in Afghanistan. Praying for his safe return!!!

I so love my family and life in general!!

I live in a very small town in a mostly rural county in central Virginia. I am a criminal defense lawyer and my hubby is a third grade teacher (role reversal going on!) We are coming up on our 30th anniversary this August. We have one wonderful son who is a lineman for our local rural electric coop.

We are Episcopalian and I jokingly told my hubby the only carbs I get anymore are in the bread at the Eucharist every Sunday!

Praying that your daughter and nephew will be safe while they are in harm's way, Marshagolightly!

Born and raised in central Kentucky, just outside of Lexington ( GO BIG BLUE!!). Spent 8 years in the Air Force. Now live in New Mexico, just inside border from Texas. Been un-married to my BH Brandy for 13 years as of this past March. Currently working in an electronics calibration lab. Was attending school part time until I had to withdraw last semester...something about a coma and DKA and my D DX and losing vision for a month. . Took this semester off to reconsider degree program and possible major change.

That about does it!

I was born and reared in TX, went to
UT when it was by itself in Austin, live in the rolling hills of N. LA with my cat Chris. Have two children and 4 g'children. Am widowed, so only worry about meals when I have company to worry with. I'm glad I have these friends here to help me cope and advise me on this path.

I'm also Episcopalian and had not thought of the carb count of wafers of that sort and had to laugh at that comment.

I just gradually developed a higher than good BG and asked for an A1C and was appalled at my 6.9, so went on the Atkins diet and dropped it to 5.4 fast. I did a home test this last Sunday and it is now 5.3, so y'all have been good for me! Thanks so much guys...so far y'all have done me right. I was a 14/16 and now i'm a 8/10 with normal readings most of the time w/out drugs so far.

I forgot to add that I am an artist of some bent! I paint in watercolor and a bit in acrylic. Hence the edit.

Born in Ottawa, Ontario Canada in 1965. Moved to Sundsvall, Sweden at age 33 when I married a Swedish woman. Divorced a year and a half later. Moved back to Canada but met a Spanish woman living in Sweden and returned, this time to Stockholm, where I have lived since. Eventually, we will move back to Canada to stay or to Spain (if I have my way, which I never do). Women rule, men drool!

I gave up my university education in Canada to move to Sweden the first time so now I am finishing that education. Now I am a doctoral student of English Linguistics at Stockholm University where I specialize in Construction Grammar and Neurolinguistics. Coming from an extremely poor family, my goal in life has always been to be the first ever to get PhD and in 3 years I will hopefully have achieved that goal.

I do a ton of tutoring of students at the university and this I do for free. I simply like seeing others succeed and it makes me feel good knowing I've helped someone pass their courses so now I am in extreme demand at the university. I normally now tutor about 70 students per semester. This is what has kept me going after my hear attack one year ago. I simply couldn't fathom seeing my students fail at anything. So even if I never reach my goal, it's been well worth it.

Yesterday, I achieved a smaller goal which was to climb Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh, Scotland. I never would have been able to do this before my heart attack and my diabetes diagnosis.

Born in Yorkshire, grew up in Nashville Tennessee and returned to UK aged 14. I started my career at a medical student, spent 2 years in practise but I did not agree with orthodox medicine so I now work for Jaguar Land Rover as Global CRM and Digital Strategy Director. My family are all medics.

I live with my soul mate of 24 years, have 2 children - Joseph 24 and Noah 7. My eldest son is a vet specialising in large animals (equine & African big 5) and my little boy wants to drive tractors.

I have my beloved pets, springer spaniels, huskies and a jack Russell alongside 2 Burmese cats and 1 Bengal and my 2 horses ;-). Life is good but work is stressful, lots of travelling and being away from my family.

I love life with passion but I worry about managing diabetes as I get older...

Thank you x

Born in Brisbane, Queensland Australia and still live in QLD. I'm a qualified librarian and started working in academic libraries, but moved to the corporate sector fairly early on, working in hard rock mining and then petroleum. After two retrenchments, I worked in the petroleum industry as a contractor for nearly 14 years. During this time, I slid sideways (and more profitably) into desktop database design and development while doing some graphic design from home. For the past 6 years I was working as a systems librarian in local government, which I loved for most of the time. Rising stress levels resulting from council amalgamation coincided with my D diagnosis, so I retired a couple of months ago and am loving every minute of retirement. Still doing the graphic design through my own company, which pays for the Mac, iPad and iPhone.
