Default Another happy day

I went to the doctor today, and the first wonderful thing that happened was that I didn't need to push the large weight on the scale over to 250; I was able to set it at 200. Mind you, my weight was 249.5, but still, that's below 250.

The next thing was that he was pleased with my A1c (5.6, down from 8.8 in November) and my weight loss (25 pounds since he saw me in December, 40 pounds total). He didn't even mention a statin, even though my cholesterol is a little high (204); he thinks this will come down with further weight loss. And he agreed for me to quit Janumet (sitagliptin + metformin) and take only metformin.

Best of all was that he didn't freak out when I told him I wasn't eating low fat. I told him that since I have to eat low carb, I have to replace the calories with something, and I understand that it's the combination of high carb and high fat that's so bad. He agreed! He talked about a book or article he'd recently read by a cardiologist saying that we (Americans? Westerners?) have been paying too much attention to fat and not enough to carbs, and we've got to start paying more attention to carbs and quit vilifying fat. AH-MAZ-ING!

He's a new doc for me and I wasn't sure I was going to like him. But I think I do.

Congrats on the weight loss and the drop in HbA1c. Sounds like you have a great doctor, can we clone him? Was he talking about the book by Dr Dwight Lundell. I've seen him on TV promoting his book. He said he had pushed the normal low fat diet for 25 years and now feels it doesn't work and we should be eating fat. Hopefully more doctors will come over to the dark side.

I didn't ask which book because I saved the LCHF discussion till the very end of the appointment; I was afraid of his reaction so I didn't want to give him much time to react.

Now I'm off to look up Dr. Lundell's book. Sounds interesting.
