Default Is my thinking correct?

Hi friends. I have not posted in awhile. I Hope everyone is doing ok. I am curious about something. Please tell me if my thinking is correct or not please.

I know something like a snicker's candy bar will cause my blood glucose to sky rocket. Here is my hypothetical question. Let us say a snicker's candy bar raises my BG by 100 points. So if my FBG is 90, I will be at 190 after I eat the candy bar. My question is let's say I cut the candy bar into 4 equal pieces and I eat just one piece. 100 / 4 = 25. Now instead of 190, will my blood sugar only rise to FBG + 25 = 115. Is my thinking correct or not? Thanks for any replies.

I have not been officially diagnosed with diabetes yet but my A1C has gone from 5.5 in 2010 to 5.8 (pre-diabetes) in 2014. I am trying to half progression of illness with diet and exercise. Current Rx meds I take = celexa and valium

Sounds like logical math, doesn't it? Not sure it works that way. Let me postulate this:

That when you eat the whole Snicker's bar...that it raises your BG 100 points for X amount of time. Let's say 1 hour, for argument's sake. After an hour your BG starts coming down. Now, if you eat 25% of that bar...your BG raises 100 points for 15 minutes...then starts coming down. Also theoretical math.

My "suggestion" is to take your hypothetical out for a test drive. That's the only real empirical evidence you're going to get, in my opinion.

Thanks Bounty....I never thought about what you said....makes sense. Don't ppl limit carbs using portion control to prevent BG from spiking? Would one or 2 tablespoons of brown rice for example raise BG the same as having a big bowl full? Do you personally eat carbs at all? Is yes, what do you eat, how much, how frequently?

Overdive, count the carbs of that snicker bar and know how many points your blood sugar rises. a normal size bar has 33g carbs. when u test make sure you have fasted before you eat the bar so no other digestive factors impact your result. If you ate half the snickers bar, then you would get 17g of carbs. I have not factored in how stress hormones can also elevate glucose levels which is another paradigm that too often gets overlooked. Here is example : your fasting bs is 100. you eat snickers bar 33g carbs and wait 20 to 40 min and retest glucose. it now shows 200 so each gram of carb elevated glucose by 3 pts x33 = 100

Ok Hearts Jounrey, thanks for your response. It sucks when you start to have to give up so many things you love that are bad for you. I try to avoid all refined carbs now, esp. things like candy bars, cookies, and doughnuts but it it really hard.

Go to Pinterest and search for KETO desserts.

You still have to check ingredients, but you will be shocked at how many things you absolutely can have.

if you can stick with it for a while, the cravings go down a lot. HEre are the things I have not had in almost 2 years
  • Candy
  • baked goods (not counting almond flour)
  • Bread
  • Rice
  • Potatoes
  • Ice Cream
  • Pasta
  • Oatmeal

I am sure there is more but I have not had 1 crumb of any of these at all in 2 years. . this is my personality. All or nothing.

I dont get cravings because of the wonderful things I can have.

FAT! and lots of it and I lose weight from eating it.

Fat does NOT make you fat and it does satisfy your cravings
