I've been tracking my carb and calorie intake for the past few days to see where I land in the carb consumption scheme of things. With out trying I average 100 grams of carbs a day.
I could easily cutback but I think my BGs like 100 g a day (as they stay stable for a Type 1) and I don't have weight issues. Every now and then I will eat a carb delight - my favorite is Pad Thai Chicken Hot but this is three or four times a year thing - talking about a carb rush and then a comatose feel afterwards.
Steak and Guiness Pie is really good too - but here again it's a couple of times a year kind of thing.

I'm not a fanatic but I do watch it. I completely avoid high GI carbs ( except the odd ice cream on birthdays etc ). Breakfast and lunch are mostly very low carbs. Evening meal has some since I have a whole family to feed. Usually have a bit more meat and cut back on the spuds. Rarely have deserts.

Today, in total I had 60g, all low GI. That's probably about average or maybe a whisker above.

Hi Overdrive! I see you are uncertain of your diabetes - perhaps type 1, type 2 or LADA (aka type 1.5). It seems for me, I have LADA and it's progressing to full-on type 1. What that means to me is I have no choice but to give insulin - I mean just to stay alive! In my case I'm also skinny (6'-5" and 185#). So, I'm managing my metabolism without concern for my weight.

So, yes, I eat carbs and give insulin for those carbs. I'm discriminating on the carbs I eat though. I strive for carbs with low glycemic indices and I steer towards a better balance between carbs/fat/protein.

Gone are the white rice, white potatoes, refined/concentrated sugar food (i.e., cake, candy, soda). I have had French fries in recent months. Very few chips - well, sometimes corn chips? Steering away from flour tortillas too!

Fact is, I'm almost 63 years old and really never focused much on my diet - not that I was a candy nut from the onset.

I did quit drinking 14 years ago - well in advance of getting diabetes. So thankful I don't have that to fuss over!
