As others have predicted the PDOC she is seeing is doing nothing more than prescribing one pill after another, none of which have worked in her favor. He has not even talked to her about coping skills, the dangers of taking Benzos for anxiety, etc. The first one paralyzed her body and put her in a severe panic attack for 6 hrs. The second one caused her to loose muscle control of her legs the next day, she would be walking along then just collapse bumping her head and knees along with extreme tiredness. The third one brought on really bad depression, carb cravings, anxiety, weakness to the point she couldn't get off the couch. None of the above gave her more than 2-4hrs of sleep a night. I was developing the worst sinus infection of my life and I have had a many of them in the past. All of my teeth on the upper right side were coming loose because of it. We had a weekend of grandkids birthday parties and were out of town. She did let me sleep all night and my sinus infection finally broke free yesterday, thank goodness. Don't mean to complain but this story does have a some what glimmer of progress and I thought I would share.

I took to google scholar again, to he!! with the PDOC, if he can't help her I will. We have spent over a $1000 on him so far and have nothing to show for it except for some anti-anxiety meds.

For the past several nights I have been giving her 10-15grams of L-Glutamine, antihistamine, Folic Acid, L-Arginine, Tryptophan, Melatonin dissolved in a glass of water. Along with this she is also taking Ibuprofen, muscle relaxer, small amount of xanax and Ambien. She slept for 5.5hrs straight for the first time in 6 weeks. I was elated, but she was mad as a hornet this morning, she had been up since 2:30 and it was now 6:00am. I gave her some more meds and she went back to sleep until 9:00am. The next morning its more L-Glutamine, Tyrosine, B-6, DLPA, folic acid which seems to stave off the need for the benzo. I am beginning to think if she can go just a few nights with out the beer she would be able to sleep all night. The alcohol creates an adrenalin rush in the middle of the night which she describes as going from a sound sleep to wide awake but only after several hours of sleep. Maybe tonight she will stop, she has been talking about stopping for quite some time. She is not drinking that much anymore, last night she had 2 cans of beer only, but it still seems to be enough to kick her awake later on in the night. Then again it may not, but we will not know until she stops it for a week or two. Thanks for listening.

Marty, your spouse is lucky to have someone who is so willing to take matters into their own hands to help out. Your wife is very lucky to have you...and I know you just want the woman you married back. It sounds like some progress is taking place and I'm so happy for you both. Medications are sometimes the root of all evil, and I would not trust a doctor who just continues to write a prescription. That is called a legal drug dealer in my eyes. The more I learn of some of the "other" affects a drug can have on your system, the less I want to take. Just listen to all the side effects or serious effects or a drug when it is advertised on television. I listen to all that and think "no thanks! I'll live with the depression, or the inability to sleep, or whatever. I don't need to deal with all the other stuff this drug can do." And then you sit and wonder how can the FDA approve these drugs as safe? Nope. The least amount of a drugs I have to take, the better off I am. I really think that all the medications they had my Mom on led to her demise as well as the Diabetes.

I am still praying for both you and your wife. I'm so happy to hear some good news! Keep the faith brother, and things will continue to get better. Just be prepared for whatever little set backs might happen, and just keep moving forward! HUGS!!!!!

So glad she got a bit more sleep - that's huge. Some/most benzos block Stage 4 sleep, which is the stage when the body repairs itself, and aren't a good idea as a sleep aid (though I know you're both doing battle with her anxiety ...) It's not surprising she couldn't get any restful sleep on all the meds the doc kept prescribing for her.

She really is fortunate to have you in her corner.

The pyschiatrist is absolutely useless in my mind. She promised our daughter to watch the kids while they went off on another weekend trip that started on Wed morning. I sent an email well over 24 hrs in advance telling him why she couldn't make the appt. He emailed me back and said it was his policy to be given 48hrs notice. I appologized for the short notice I waa unaware of his policy. I told him money is short and we would really appreciate it if he didn't charge us. I then asked him would the appt even be worth while before she had a sleep study, if so we would make arrangements to be there on time. The only reply I got was he charged us $225 on my credit card, what an asssss.
