i had the strangest experience today and if i listen to what my body is telling me, I have to draw a conclusion that is pretty nutbar crazy.
Today, I power walked from the bus stop to home. I walked as fast as I could go and I added short intervals of that almost running move that overweight people like myself do when we try to run. lol. Anyway, I felt really good and my level of breathing comfort was the best that it has been 12 months or more.
ofcourse, some of you are aware that i had a polmonary embolism in january and ive been taking warfarin ever since.
is it possible that the clots are out of my lungs? furthermore, is it possible that i've been experiencing a series of tiny embolisms prior to january? that would explain how i am feeling.
if i should continue to feel as well as i did today, i'm guessing that the next 6 months of warfarin therapy might give me boost to increasing my workout intensity on my home eliptical.
Hey that's great NSDad - I know with me I always feel at my best when I'm doing an endurance activity - be it long distance walking, cycling, canoeing or some other like minded activity.
It just seems to get the circulation going, the muscles moving and if the weather is nice - a boost to ones head space.
Lets hope we get an early spring so you can continue with your walking routine. I've just been itching to get my bicycle on the Confederation Trail but it's still a little icy on the trail.
As MB says above....see your doctor before you start pushing! Your are dealing with some possible health issues, that if you guess wrong the outcome could be very bad...
Yes, agreed, it does sound like I might be pushing too hard, too fast. And, I really appreciate the sincere concern for me.
I need to add to my original post to clarify...I wasn't breathing hard, and my pulse wasn't racing either, yet I covered a distance that I fully expected to be breathing hard.
The day of my PE, I couldn't walk 100 ft without stopping. I didn't feel like that yesterday.
And, weeks or months prior to my PE, a brisk walk would get me breathing pretty hard but my heart rate was only mildly elevated. I believe I was feeling way better than that, too.
To explain it a different way, on a subjective scale of 1 (easy) to 10( hard), yesterday, I felt like I was breathing at a 3 and my heart rate was a 3. In pasts months, I would say that I was breathing at a 5 and a heart rate of 4.
Hmm...I wonder if I'm just experiencing a boost from ketosis. I'm on my fourth day of fasting 18-20 hours per day.
Maybe it just seems like a big difference because it is a walk I've done on a regular basis for over a year, and I have an excellent awareness of how my body reacts to the walk.
There's so many variables to take in to account eh? - but if the doc gives you an all clear for walking and you're able to do so - I would suggest you keep at it.
Humans are walking machines - This past September my wife and I walked from the waterfront to Citadel Hill in Halifax - I was in pretty good shape and it was tiring - especially going up all those hills. But, the following day I felt great so I probably didn't over do it but on the walk back I had to grab something sweet as my BGs suddenly dropped. That's one of the problems of an unplanned activity - if I had known before hand I would have given myself less insulin or had a bigger lunch.
You guys are amazing with all of the positive activities and points of view. I can only "sit" back in awe. Just got off the phone with my cardio specialist and was told after all of the exams my heart is normal, but that I should walk 30 minutes a day.
I can't hardly do 30 minutes a week yet. I will try as I am in that neighborhood of my weight loss that it is no longer physically demanding to exercise.
Thanks for all of the positive energy and vibes and @NSDad126 keep up the good work!
walking is one of the things the doctor prescibed on my first day at the hospital. he said do lots of it and then do lots more.
he explained that even when my heart is racing I am not at risk of heart attack or stroke becaise the clots are already 'down stream' from my heart.
he said an elevated heart rate won't hurt me but not to think of it as a workout.
so yeah, lots of activity below my scarey breathing threshold is good. for each person it can be very different, my dad was on oxygen when he had a PE. Fot me, I have a wide range of walking that I can work with. based on yesterday, maybe a bit more than I thought.
today was the same. I am walking as fast as I want in stores and my breathing is normal.
i'll bring it up with my doc, like you guys are saying, there can be alot at stake.
hmm...i have an app on my phone that takes my pulse when i put my finger on the camera. no joke. it works.
i could easily take a few readings through out the day. it could be useful way to determine if doing more isnt over doing it.
