Origins of diabetes type 1

Thirteen years old article in NY Times, and I don't know if this theory has been disproved or not, but I found it to be very interesting, especially a part about a diabetic frog :)

Most likely lot of people here have read this years ago, but by searching the forum I found no link on this article.

Seems a silly hypothesis to me and rather simplistic.

The idea that Type 1 diabetes is an adaptation to extreme cold needs much more research, Dr. Moalem said. Cause and effect have not been proved.
Bottom line, what difference does it make?

The first time I read about the cold temperature theory - sounds far fetched and like you said VeeJay - pretty silly.

I always thought the first recorded incidence of diabetes was recognized by the Egyptians in manuscripts dating to approximately 1550 B.C. Maybe it was cold there too :smile2:
