Default My Diabetes Has Worsened Drastically.

My insulin requirements have doubled, and it happened over the summer, and I am not sure what caused it.
I went from taking 60 units to taking 100+, and I have taken over 120 units in a day.

I am going to write my doctor a message and let him know about it.
But, I don't know what happened; I was exercising pretty heavily, and that is the only culprit that I can think of.

I will let you know how things turn out.

I don't think that is it, because I use a lot more Novolog and Lantus, both of them.
I can take 40 units of NL now, after a moderate meal; in the past, I never went past 20, even after a heavy meal.

Yesterday I took 100 units of Lantus, and my BS was about 130 this morning.
I used to take 50 units of it. So, I am thinking that my kidneys and pancreas have weakened.

Bizarre problem - I hope you're able to work it out. One thing I disocvered about Lantus - When I changed Long Acting insulin I was told to use the same amount as my previous kind so I did - this was aroung 60 - 70 Units of Lantus - Let me tell you it was a DISASTER!

I ended up with almost constantly high BGs and my A1C was over 8. It was something (of all people) my ophthalmologist mentioned in passing that with long acting insulin taking too much can have the opposite affect - High BGs not lows.

So I gradually cut back and over time I went from 60 plus down to 26 units and suddenly keeping my BGs in line became much easier.

I'm not a doctor - so I'm not telling you to do this - just recounting my own personal experience.

Best of Luck!

Well so far, the VA has not answered my question, as to why it happened.
Some RN answers messages for my doctor, and he handed me off to a pharmacist.

I will keep what you said in mind, though.
