To paraphrase Dr. Phil, how's that workin' for ya?

Wonder if someone makes a candle that smells like a campfire. Someone must do that...

Quite a turn in the weather here this morning, after several days in the 60s and 70s F, it is 24.7 F currently with 84% humidity. Fortunately not as cold and no wind as originally predicted.

Does a cold snap affect your Blood Glucose? Is it due to the weather, or things you do or don't do in reaction to the colder weather.

It's -30ºC with the wind chill. All I can think about is cheese.

Had a sad moment today. I was working at the thrift shop where I volunteer, going through the contents of a couple bins recently donated. Most of which was of some woman's sewing supplies. They were all old - some decades old and a few items that would be considered "vintage" nowadays. She must have been sewing clothes for many years - maybe for herself and her children. She was frugal because there were zippers there that had been removed from dresses - to be used again?

Within one of the bins was a small shipping box from a medical supply company - sealed and unopened. It contained about 6 boxes of blood glucose testing strips and three boxes of lancets. I was suddenly saddened realizing that something must have happened to this woman soon after she received the shipment. I expect that she passed away and her family just dumped her sewing stuff in bins to donate. In there was also the woman's medical alert device.

We often receive donations of items from the houses of those who pass away and I'm not much affected emotionally. Somehow this one was personal to me. I guess because of the diabetic supplies and being able to relate to her on this level at least, and also I have sewn a lot in my lifetime and know what it's like to accumulate a great deal of supplies that one never really uses.

BTW, the test strips had an expiration date of 2013. We tossed them. But did put the lancets out for sale, as they don't actually go bad. Hopefully it will be a great find for someone who can't easily afford them.

Wow, Cricket....you really hit me with memories I love! I was raised in the high mountains of Colorado. Going camping in the mountains both winter and summer has been a part of my life since I was 5 years old.

As I got older, drinking and making camp coffee became an 'art form'! We take a large pot of freshly collected cold spring water and add a couple of handfuls of coffee to the pot. By the way, the pot has nothing inside the to percolate just the water in a pot.

We then bring the water to a fast boil over the camp fire, letting it go for 3-5 minutes, depending how bad we need a cup of the java!? Take the pot off the fire setting it on a rock, still near the fire (to keep the coffee hot). Then, to clear the grounds we pore a cup of ice cold water over the top. We get the cold water from the spring with ice added (if we have any). It make all the grounds sink to the bottom (I here some use egg shells, but I have never tried it).

This coffee tastes totally unique, not like any coffee I have had anywhere. It is ambrosia....I am sure many here have a similar best coffee experience....

Thanks for the memories....

I’m so glad I love eggs. Breakfast has become my new favorite meal. In the morning will be a 3 egg cheddar cheese omelet with EXTRA sausage :-)
