Default Natural Supplements

I have noticed that many of you take natural supplements to help with your diabetes. I was hoping that you could weigh in on what you take, how much, and what results you have seen taking it. I am looking for a non-pharmaceutical way of reducing my blood glucose levels.

Thanks so much!

If you are going to use natural supps I would suggest you try and determine what your problems are. The shotgun approach didn't work for me at all.

I started with my digestion. How long did it take food to clear my system (rentention time). This may sound odd but I am a firm believer my digestion was trying to tell me something, heart burn, acid reflux, constipation, indigestion, etc. I started on resistant starch, flaxseed, until I got my digestion where I wanted it to be. I also took mega amounts of probiotics.

I had to determine if I had enough insulin to bring my mornings numbers down. I did a little experiment in which I drank a glass of water with lemon juice, 4 packets of art sweetener and 4 grams of sugar. This combination forces a GLP-1 release. What I learned was I had enough insulin but my signaling was faulty or I had a lack of GLP-1 hormone. I then took dandelion root extract, lots of it. I read now that green coffee bean extract has even more chlorogenic acid than dandelion root. Cholorgenic acid helps with GLP-1 release.

Aspirin was of great benefit to me as well. I started out with 1 (325mg) worked my way up to 6 a day and then back down over a period of a month. Aspirin helps with the proper environment to help with your beta mass and insulin release. My BG level dropped quite well.

I then got my hormones checked, I was low in Testosterone. I am now injecting testosterone and again I saw a dramatic decrease in my BG levels.

Hope some of this helps. Try to determine what you may think your problems are then research which natural supp will effect it in a positive way the most. I stayed away from any odd ball items or items that haven't been consumed for a long time.

What is a normal level of insulin? This sounds like a great test to find out the reasons my glucose level is so high in the morning.

I eat very low carb in the morning but I was still suffering from the morning rise after I woke up. I wanted to determine if I had enough insulin to bring my morning rise back down while eating a low carb breakfast. The sugar and art sweetener worked so well for me I do it everyday in my coffee. 4 packets of art swetener, 4 grams of sugar, heavy cream, coconut oil. Your body can not tell the difference between art sweeteners abd sugar when they are consumed together. Your body reacts as if you ate a whole lot more carbs than what you actually did. Now when I get up my BG is in the mid 70's, coffee, go for a walk, eat breakfast, 2 hr PP is around mid 80's.

I used to take a special multivitamin for diabetics, but I don't think it affected my BG (and the pills smelled like pee) so I stopped taking it. Now I take a women's multivitamin and Cold-FX(ginseng supplement). The ginseng is to boost my immune system, which really took a hit before I was diagnosed and still seems to need some help. I take D-Mannose powder to prevent UTIs and some Metamucil once a day just to keep things moving. I do eat a lot of natural fiber due to veggies, etc. but the Metamucil helps anyway.
