thought the Dr had doubled my Metformin and added Glipizide.

Turns out I am on Glimepiride 2 mg. It drops me fast - body not loving it but only 3 rd day.

Glimepiride and Glipizide are both of the sulfonylurea class of diabetes drugs, and both are damaging to the pancreas because they squeeze it to produce additional insulin whether that insulin is needed or not - meaning it still produces insulin even if there's no glucose in the bloodstream.

Because insulin RESISTANCE is the hallmark of type 2 diabetes, there's no excuse for killing the pancreas in order to get even more insulin - more is not what is needed. What is needed is for the insulin to be able to move glucose into the cells, and that is what metformin does. Metformin is the single solitary safest best drug for insulin resistance because it works in the liver to reduce secretion of glucose - not in the pancreas to force production of more insulin.

Agreeing with Shanny, not a drug you want to take.

Here is what Bloodsugar101 has to say about this class of drugs - Amaryl, Glyburide, Prandin, Starlix: Drugs that Stimulate Insulin Secretion.

As Shanny and Donna both said, it's not my idea of a good choice for us.
