it's almost a year since I've been on the LCHF WOE. My sugars are basically in a good range, all day long and mostly during the night too. I've determine that it's normal at 3 am. and then around 4 am if I wake up it's all they way up to 175. No matter what I eat a the night meal, no matter how low or high I go to bed, my fasting blood sugar is around 175. So today, I emailed my endocrinologist and asked for the Extended Release Metformin, to see if I can tolerate it and that I thought maybe it would help with that fasting blood sugar and I would to lose some weight.

He agreed and called me in a script and instructions on how to take it. I will pick it up tommorrow and will let ya'll know how it goes.

Good deal Roxanne, I know you have been struggling with DP for a long time and I hope it helps. I have been taking Metformin for about 20 years and although LCHF has allowed me to stop the sulfonylurea I was taking I don't think I will ever stop the Metformin. Just be aware that it usually takes some time to start working so give it a chance.

Sounds like you've got a great plan going! It may take some time to arrive at the right dose of Met. Fingers crossed!

Sounds like a good plan. I break up my ER dose into two parts--half in the morning, half at night. Since I moved my evening dose to bedtime my morning FBG's are in a normal range.

Woke up this am with gastric upset. I never have that . . . so I think I'm going to hold off on the metformin at least one day.

Have you tried a snack at 3 am (since you are awake) when you are 'normal'. A little 20 gm protein should help with that 175 IMO.

I recently had to fast for eye surgery, and what I found when I eat at 3 am it does stay low, but by the time I went back to bed and awaken again, it had dumped. I'm not up at 3 am every am, but I did set an alarm at 3 am and then again at 4 am, to know when it happens. I wanted to get up every am at 3 am to eat a little something, but really it's too much when I don't sleep that well some nights anyway.

I dunno about the metformin . . . something has gotten my stomach upset, not sure it's the metformin because I got that the day before I started it.

At any rate . . . I have to decrease insulin drastically already on day 3 as I've had several lows and that's after adjusting for insulin, so it's a check check check thing.

I'm sticking with it, but in the "pooping arena" it's not so promising at this point. so extended release metformin might not be my drug of choice (500 mg) not much, but pooping regimen as definitely changed and not for the good either.

There are some nasty bugs going around, and that always murks up the picture.

Hope you find answers ASAP!
