Wife and I both take 10000 units a day. Checked mine with last blood work, topped off nicely. Also had B12 checked it was good to, been taking 1000-2000 a day.

I do reduce the amount in the summer months, lots of sunshine here in the south. Numbers don't change much with it or with out it. Wife had her's checked a long time ago and the doc put her on 50,000u for a while. I read 10,000 a day is a safe dose.
