Default metformin, aging

From Science Digest, news about metformin & aging. Of course, it's just worms so we humans should assume this has zero relevance for us, a step forward in understanding how metformin works or anything else except about wormy physiology. Not sure why I'm posting the link, now that I think about it. Chalk it up to the silly retired (diabetic) scientist in me, I guess.

Anti-diabetic drug slows aging and lengthens lifespan, animal study suggests -- ScienceDaily

" Summary: Researchers have provided new evidence that metformin, the world’s most widely used anti-diabetic drug, slows aging and increases lifespan. Scientists teased out the mechanism behind metformin's age-slowing effects: the drug causes an increase in the number of toxic oxygen molecules released in the cell and this, surprisingly, increases cell robustness and longevity in the long term."

This wouldn't surprise me considering the other known benefits that it has.

Well perhaps these chemicals, Metformin, Viagra, should be judged like any other processing aid. As for example a wetting agent ,release agent, catalyst, anti oxidant , UV absorber or anti foam etc .

ie by their CPP = cost per performance ratio.
