I doubt if the medical profession is even LOOKING for a cure, but there may be a few researchers/scientists out there working on it. But there are so many freakin' quacks running loose who are forever touting their pseudo-cures, how would one ever know if the real thing were found?!

have not found a cure. I have found a very effective intervention.
Pulsatile IV Insulin Therapy.
See trials and tribulations of beng a type 1 Diabetic.

No designer drugs involved. It is just insulin, which most of us already use.

Yes, right now medicare doesnot cover it. They did a little over a year ago.
But, if you are going to loose your leg, or your kidneys are failing, it can be a lifesaver.

No, this new "intervention" is not to be confused with an insulin pump . . . we have a sub-forum about pumping, so you may glean some information here, Sabino. Insulin Pumps

Default Pulsatile IV INsulin/not the pump

I have been on the pump for years. The pulsatile Iv Insulin therapy is an interventional treatment. Studies show that even if you are able to keep your A1c down, that does not prevent the complications of Diabetes.
PIVIT is a treatment given in a clinic or doctor's office. It is insulin given thru an IV. It is given in pulses over 3 to 4 hours, once a week. Some can get it once a month, depending on the severity of their compllications.

Until there is a cure, this treatment can help with the complications.
For example this treatment has halted and /or reversed retinopathy.
It has halted and reversed, to a point, my own renal failure.
It promotes wound healing, and more
A happy side effect is weight loss. There are not ill effects.

Insulin is secreted from the pancres to the portal vein of the liver, in pulses, as your body needs it. INjecting insulin, or pumping insulin
enters your body thru interstitual fluids, not into the blood stream.
Most of this insulin never makes it to where it needs to go.

YOu can google Pulsatile IV INsulin Therapy, also called MAT, CAT, CIIT
artificial pancreas treatment. I have found 12 different names for the same treatment.
Any other questions? I'll be happy to help. This treatment has made such a difference in my life, I feel a need to share the information.
Thanks for your queston.

On other quick note Over the last 25 years, people have gotten this treatment.
Medicare declined request for payment. The people appealed and won !

Can you direct me to these studies? I'm very interested in this issue.

And congrats on winning your battle with Medicare, that's awesome!

Please let me clarify, I never appealed to Medicare, personally.
The clinic I attend is in a clinical trial now, they are recruiting.
There site would give you all the info trial is based on. However, I will not do that, as the administrator is not comfortable with that.

Published reports
Effects of Pusatile Intravenous Insulin Therapy on The Progression of Diabetic Nephropathy, Metabolism, vol 49, No.11 (novenber) 2000
pp 1491-1495
Start with that one, I will get my notebook and give you more.
