Default FDA approving using CGM for insulin dosing

This is a good development in the land of CGM. A FDA panel voted to approve the use of CGM readings for insulin dosing, without a fingerstick verification. You may not know this but today, CGM readings are supposed to only be "additional information" but not acceptable as a replacement of a fingerstick before dosing your insulin. Which is kind of silly since CGM's today are more accurate than some meters, and actually give you much more information to safely choose an insulin dose.

FDA Panel Says Yes to Expanded CGM Use

Beyond the initial impact of allowing people to openly talk about how they are already using their CGM, it would also improve training for people using CGMs and help pave the way for more private insurance companies and medicare paying for CGMs!

The FDA doesn't have to go with what the panel suggests but it's pretty likely that they will.

I had no idea they had to be adjunct to finger pricks. Great news, esp prospective insurance coverage!
