You mean other then being told for about 5 years that I was prediabetic?

At the time I was diagnosed I didn't think I had any symptoms, but after reading this thread I realize I had several. Extreme thirst and peeing and "napping" after dinner which was usually something high to very high carb.

I don't have any at the moment. I'm hoping to keep it that way. Working hard on diet and exercise

Wow! Such interesting stories!

Well, if you want the long story of my non-diagnosis, it's here

Fatigue after exercise, for days

(I posted that as an unregistered guest, but if you follow the very long thread, you'll see that later I post as Mar2a.)

It wasn't until I did the Big Blue Test last year that I discovered that my BG drops really quickly when I exercise. (Pre-exercise 101. Just 15 minutes later, 67. Then 15 minutes after THAT, 104.)

During the course of trying to figure all this out, my meter told me I was more than likely diabetic. My doctor looks just at my A1c, which still hasn't crossed the line. I don't think my next one will be as good. (Last night I was 138 before bed, 130 in the middle of the night, and 126 on waking this morning.)

And yes, the water drinking! When I started logging things more consistently a year ago, I realized I was drinking 2 gallons of water a day. I'd pee every 30-45 minutes. The more I drank, the thirstier I got, until sometimes my lips would start cracking and I'd shut myself off from drinking anymore until the next day.

I went to my doctor thinking I had a urinary tract infection. She took a urine sample and said there was no bacteria, but on a hunch she tested it with a dip stick (or whatever) and it was high. She said that excess protein in the urinary tract can irritate the tract. She sent me for blood work, and that's when I found I had diabetes.

I didn't think I had any symptoms but upon looking back I guess I did. About 6 years ago I just suddenly developed a frozen shoulder, the 1st. question the Dr. asked was if I was D, he said it is common for D (?) of course my answer was no.
I always loved sweets and the last few years that was all I wanted to eat. Then I suddenly began to notice that i was really tired after over-dosing on candy etc. around Halloween, I do mean tired, I was going to bed at around 7:30 but couldn't sleep. Cut back on the candy and started feeling better, tried eating somewhat better. My sleeping pattern has improved some since I started eating LCHF.

My husband decided in Jan. to have some blood work done, so what the heck me to, it had been 8 years or more since I had any done, and that's when I was given the news of 'pre-D', (FBG 114, A1c 5.6) I expected my cholesterol to be hi (222) but not this other. Like I had mentioned in my 'intro post' the Dr. just blew it off saying 'it is only numbers'.

I have always had to pee a lot so I never drank much water, etc. But I was never really thirsty unless the weather was extremely hot.

I have also noticed over the past 3-4 years that my eye sight has really changed, spent $500 on a pair of glasses 4 years ago and within a year they were not longer strong enough, went and bought cheaters.

Oh, and my children were large at birth, 1st. child was 8lbs 6oz, the second was 9lbs.9oz.

My symptoms aren't as extreme as some of you others - but this is my story and I'm sticking to it.

Mine was a great thirst but more importantly, a visit to the eye doctor showed a large prescription change, which I filled only to return to pick up the glasses not being able to see out of them...the old glasses worked better! That's when the eye doctor told me to see my GP and get checked for diabetes...sure enough my BS was something like 256 that day...who knows what it was the day of my eye exam (don't want to think about it!!!).

Mine was just a lot of urinating and thirst. Probably had a few other symptoms but never recognized them.

My number when first diagnosed about 3 wks ago was 495. I've now avg 102 for the last week.

My eye site is has returned to normal, which is awesome because i can once again read my phone. Occasional blur, but not for long.

This forum and everyone has been awesome!

I found out by accident. My son was visiting and complained of some of the classic symptoms, so I borrowed my sister's meter and tested his BG and just for the heck of it, mine. He was normal. I, on the other hand, was not. I had a 140 FBG. When I thought back, I had been very tired and thirsty. But, it WAS warm out and I was working a lot, so I never thought twice about it.

I was clueless - although in retrospect all the signs were there - frequent urination, drinking more, more infections...and I should have recognized them because my HS BF was diabetic and I was schooled in it...

However this was about the time I was getting married so I'm going to pull the "I was really busy so didn't put 2 and 2 together" card...

I was diagnosed offficially about 4 months after the wedding...

First I would have to say either thirst or peeing a lot , like so many others have said. Dry mouth and down on power so finally went to the Dr. thinking I was getting strep throat or something like that. I am lucky I have a really good doctor and he looked at me and said " I think you have diabetes " , finger stick and sugar was just short of 600. I hate it when doc is right
