...the thread title speaks for itself;

What was the 1st symptom that led to the discovery that you had diabetes?

I was like the frog in a pot of boiling water, having symptoms gradually but being clueless.

Unquenchable thirst didn't even get my attention, I just thought I was really really thirsty and obviously then had to pee a lot. I was =really= out of touch.

The symptom that made me go to urgent care was not holding food down for a week, holding onto walls to walk, and collapsing on a frosty lawn in NC at 11 PM because I wasn't strong enough to carry the netted bag of oranges I had been compelled to go to the store for (more fresh juice!).

For a month prior, I had been spontaneously throwing up ...

The first needle of suspicion was a feeling of light drunkenness throughout the day. Then came the persistent fungal infections ,,, then there was no need to suspect, it was set in stone that big D had arrived.

The first symptom I manifested was on my annual lab work - a fasting of 130 (7.2). Doc knew it was diabetic and I knew it too, but blew it off for several more months because of more pressing family medical issues (doc knew those too ).

About eight months later I got another fasting reading at the public health department, and it had jumped to 165 (9.2). I was uninsured at that time - hence relying on the public health department nurse, who explained about getting an A1c, etc. Then our doc suggested a free clinic where he did volunteer work, so I got in there & he made the official diagnosis through the free clinic.

I had symptoms that I recognised as probably diabetic as far back as 2008, but was uninsured and didnt want a preexisting condition so never got diagnosed. Vision issues, super thirsty, frequent urination, excessive sweating, groggy all the time, etc... I made some minor lifestyle changes at the time and felt better, but over time I slid back into old habits.
I was diagnosed with a nonfasting bg of 313 when I went to the hospital for a sinus infection and they did a blood draw. It never occurred to me in the ER that they would do a glucose test. When the Dr came back and told me I was diabetic it was a bit of a relief to not pretend that I didnt know. I guess I am probably very lucky that 4.5 years of ignoring it didnt destroy my body (At least as far as I can tell at this point.).

I had NONE. Nodda. Zip..

I went to a clinic for a total different issue. Nurse NOT a doc told me I have diabetes.Threw a kit at me & that pretty much covers it.

Yet I was in another walk in center not a month before for a ear wax cleaning & they told me nothing.
so I guess I got D one month later lol .

No telling how long I had it.
