Default Worried about bubbles on Urine

Does that always mean protein? They are small bubbles spread around and also a few quarter size foamy bubbles that look like soap suds. If I drink a lot of water and tea my pee will be clear for a few hours but when I eat something the bubbles seem to reappear. Also sometimes I pee a lot and other times I don't at all. I haven't had a sugar blood test in 5 years but fasting at that time was 75 and my kidneys were fine. Never been diagnosed with anything except hypothyroidism 2 years ago which I take meds for. I am going to the dr next week but worried that I did a lot of damage in the 5 years of possibly becoming diabetic and being to scared to go the the dr. I don't eat well and struggle with my weight but I do exercise at least 4 to 6 days a week for the past 10 years. I recently went to the dentist after years and my teeth were fine. So that's good. Could I be in kidney failure and that is the cause of the bubbles and the retaining water when I eat too much? Can high blood sugar cause bubbles?

Also I'm almost never thirsty. Maybe for a few minutes when I eat something sugary but it goes away(and I don't eat sweats a lot).

Bubbles in your pee? That is not anything to base a diagnosis on, for sure. Please go to your doctor and get tests if you are at all worried about your health.

And now I'm going to be watching my pee for bubbles.

Sorry but there's no straight answer here on this. I've not come across any information that suggests that bubbles in urine mean anything significant as regards diabetes.

The only way to check for diabetes is to test for the presence of sugar, ideally in blood but you can get an indication by checking with a test strip in urine. You can also test for ketones with another type of strip. These strips are quite inexpensive and although they don't deliver an exact result they will give you an indication if the issue is worth checking with your doctor.

Your blood glucose figure five years ago was on the low end of the normal range and unless you have had other indications that there is an issue, I wouldn't be too worried just yet. The fact that your teeth are fine is a good sign since diabetes does tend to show evidence in tooth decay.

All in all, I don't think you need worry overmuch but you do need to discuss your worries with your doctor and hopefully he can set your mind at rest.

Having just gone deeply ketogenic ... I have bubbles, now, maybe it is a sign of ketones.

It could be kidneys, best to check including 24 hours urine and serum osmolality, basic kidney routine tests are not good enough.

From the number of posts confirming bubbles, and I can add that there are bubbles in my urine, has been for a long time, I think it's normal. I don't know why they are there but my recent tests, resulted in a normal kidney function report. Could it be you just didn't notice the bubbles before or is this something really new for you?

My Nephrologist says that it is an indicator of protein in the urine. You could have blood work done to check your blood creatnine levels. That is an indicator that your kidneys are not working at 100% efficiency if the creatnine levels are above normal, as mine are.
