Default Constant coughing (Please Help)

Hi everyone,

I am a type 1 diabetic who had an unexplained weight loss episode (20 pounds in 3 weeks), and lost my appetite for about 3 months (march to may just got my appetite back). I have had this nagging dry coughing since march that has not gone away. I have taken cough syrup, antibiotics, albuterol sulfate and nothing has helped. Ive been to numerous doctors and they have diagnosed me with a cold that i just can't seem to shake. This is extremely frustrating. I would like to know if anyone has gone through a similar episode and what their diagnosis was or what they suspect it could be. I need some help from the diabetic community because I plan on going to the emergency room tonight and would like them to check me for some things and your advice would help

Sorry for the long rant

Thank you in advance

I guess they checked for infection, maybe it could be something on your throat or your esophagus that is causing the coughing. You could have a specialist look with an endoscope. Also have a chest X-ray to see if something on the lungs. They can also check again with a blood analysis to see if there is some lingering infection.

Allergies can be the culprit also. Post nasal drainage irritates the throat, sometimes enough to cause coughing and/or severe sore throat. And March up to the present is just about the time frame this year - for me at least.

Do you take any other meds? My HBP meds cause an annoying cough.

I would go see a throat specialist. It might be allergies, or something actually physically irritating your throat. Good luck.

I had a virus from Jan-May that caused me to cough, and then allergies kicked in just to make it more fun. Blood work showed it to be just a virus, but I had several days with no voice and apparently it is now gone except in the mornings when I still have a bit of mucus to deal with.

1) allergies?
2) Albuterol once sent my husband into RESPIRATORY FAILURE. Look it up -- scary stuff.
3) are you on an ACE inhibitor? They can cause coughing.

That is the extent of my resources, I hope you can find an answer!

I have a persistent cough during the night while trying to sleep. I've had it for years and have, up until recently, always attributed it to my smoking habit (which is a thing of the past). I remember looking it up on the net and have since tended to regard it as being a case of dry throat at night. Whether that's true or not isn't important. Since surviving my heart attack, dealing with diabetes and then the joy of finally starting to enjoy life again through a LCHF diet and exercise, I really don't want to know if I have anything else.
