I find that Ayr's Sinus Rinse used three times a day tapering off as cold gets better as my ENT ordered me to do keeps my nose open and lets me take no oral meds. It also saves my bacon when the pollen hits me. No asthma or bronchitis since he made me learn to do it….lifetime problems prior.

Thanks for all the well wishes.

I am feeling better, and the head cold is just about gone now. It lasted about one week from beginning to end. I'm surprised it did not linger (but thankful). I wonder if the two antibiotics I was on for diverticulitis had something to do with the quick onset of this cold. It seems awfully weird that it started like 3-1/2 days after starting the antibiotic, and began waning after I took the last dose on the 7th day. Did it perhaps hit my immunity?

Actually don't care anymore; its going going....soon to be completely gone and good riddance!

There are definitely some antibiotics which work well for the diagnosed issue, but leave us open to other nasty 'issues'. I can understand your suspicion, Renee!

Roadie, I did all that you are attempting. Let me tell you, I'm not crazy about nasal sprays either, but after four days of not being able to breathe out of my nose was more than I could take. I finally gave in and used the nasal spray. Luckily I only used it three times. After the third time, my nasal passages finally started to shrink and I could breathe through my nose again. I would also look at Nasalcort that is a 24 hour spray and is supposedly non-habit forming. Good Luck. I hope it runs its course quickly for you.

I have Zero Wisdom to add on the subject of head colds (except, yeah, I'm leery of antibiotics myself), but I'm delighted you're feeling better, Renee!

I went through a week long cold not long ago and unfortunately had to fall back on Halls that contained sugar... because all the "no sugar added" contained isomalt, a sugar alcohol, and my intestines did NOT like it. Bleah. I have yet to find a sugarfree lozenge that contains just Splenda.
