Default shouls i go bk to doctor?

i'm 38 and had gestational diab with last child 7 years ago sugar was fine after pregnancy.it's been three years since i have had a glucose test.i failed glucose test slightly by 15 mgs of sugar but my a1c came back at 5.2 so dr said nothing to worry about..lately i have felt nauseated on and off through out day ,i have calf pains and cramps and have to go bathroom more than usual at night ,my mouth seems real dry at times.i have been checking my bs levels and so far my morning fasting has been between 90 and 98,if i have a burger or a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch ,sugars run about 166 to 216 2 hours post meal.but i also have been running a few low sugars .i had 2 eggs and one bisquit and a sausage patty plus 20oz of oj yeasterday morning and about 3 hours after i felt blah! so i checked sugar and i was running a 66.i did a random check during day a couple of days ago and it was 134 and i did one before lunch today and it was 126 .should i do another glucose test ?

can having lows along with highs affect how you a1c test comes out.i was wondering if having lows also with highs could make a1c lower

Welcome to the Forum!

I would definitely go back to the doc and report those numbers. The A1c has its uses, but it appears that more daily control is what's needed.

Please let us know how you're doing!

Yes, you should go back to the doctor and have them do another OGTT test. Doctors miss many people in early stages of diabetes because their HbA1c is still low and fastings are at the high end of normal. It sounds like you may be insulin resistant. What usually happens when you drink something like 20 oz of OJ, which is probably about 75 carbs is that your bgs spike very quickly and then your pancreas overproduces insulin which sends you crashing. I'm sure you feel almost sick during these episodes. I had lots of them in the years before I was dx'd with diabetes. Actually limiting your carbs at each meal to the carbs your pancreas can handle will help this. That way you don't spike or drop low and feel much better. No one knows when diabetic complication's start to occur. But keeping bgs as close to normal as you can get them is the best bet.

I also agree that you should go back to the doctor.the a1c is an average of your blood sugar levels which means you can have a low a1c and still have high numbers
