Before diabetes when my bgs were high for quite awhile, I really didn't recognise many symptoms. At the time I was exercising a ton , so I was drinking tons of water. I thought that was normal. Of course since I was drinking water I was using the bathroom a lot. I would often get cramps in my legs and feet, again I thought it was from over exercising. But now I know different, it was probably neuropathy. The symptom that brought me to my eye doctor for new glasses was changing vision. She tested my eyes and my Rx had not changed but my vision was getting blurry. She did see some microscoptic specks in the back of my eye when she dilated. She sent me to a specialist and once he used his advanced machined, he immediately knew I was diabetic because damage had alread begun to occur.

My symptom was being very fatigued. I didn't have any of the other "official" symptoms like weight loss or drinking a lot.

I had no symptoms. I didn't even get up the whole night as a 57 year-old male. One possible symptom (which I didn't connect with anything) was the occasional feeling like insects were biting the bottoms of my feet when there weren't really any there. Other than that, I started with an A1C of 10.7 and no symptoms.

I had no symptoms that I noticed...

When I look at it in hindsight, there were some, I just didn't see them in my case:

I drank a lot of water - every hour I'd finish a small water bottle... but I've always done that and never thought anything of it... because I was always drinking, I was never "thirsty" as some people become when symptomatic...

I used the washroom a fair bit (frequent urination)... but again, I was always drinking so thought nothing of it. If I stopped drinking by say 9pm, I could usually sleep through the night without needing to get up and urinate.

I lost hair on my lower legs ... I attributed this to age not realizing it was due to poor circulation from the diabetes... (In fact, since normalizing blood glucose, much of the hair has grown back!)

Some people experience fatigue - as someone who was in bed 24/7 with spinal issues and on lots of pain meds... I couldn't honestly tell you if I experienced that or not as I felt that way all the time...

If the hyperglycemia has been long-term it will impair healing - cuts, scrapes, infections etc. will take longer than normal to heal. (I had this happen but again, ignorantly attributed it to age.)

Some people also experience headaches, difficulty concentrating and even blurred vision.

The truth is, with the exception of the thirst and waking up to urinate, most people DON'T notice symptoms of hyperglycemia until it's quite extreme - there's not much you 'feel' when you're used to being high all the time.

I didn't have the acid reflux, and didn't start vomiting until a couple of hours before DH dragged me to the ER. I did have a hideous sinus infection that wouldn't clear up. My bg was 750 at admittance to the hospital, and my A1C was over 15.

To the OP - why do you ask? If you think you may have diabetes, don't ignore it. Get yourself checked by a doctor as soon as you can.
