Default Advice Needed

I have been having numbness in my feet since before Thanksgiving. It has gotten pretty bad and irritating that I finally went to the Doctor. So far, I am the only one in my family that has not been diagnosed with diabetes, and after much prodding from everyone that I should get I it checked out I went. They did an A1C test on my, and it came back as 6.0, and the mean plasma glucose was 126. My PCP called and said everything looked good. Just wondering if I should get a second opinion as the numbness in my feet is driving me crazy. Plus kind of worries me since all my siblings, parents and grandparents all have diabetes. Thoughts???

The diabetes information site, Blood Sugar 101 has an article on how to test for yourself whether your body is normal or having difficulties in processing carbohydrates.

Might be worth the time involved to do this for your peace of mind - or a heads-up.
Am I Diabetic? How to Test Your Own Blood Sugar To Find Out

The fact that your other family members have developed T2 diabetes indicates that you do have an increased risk of developing it too. Good news is that if you do some preventative dietary measures now, rather than wait until the the tests show diabetes - you may be able to head off the progression indefinitely, or at least minimize it. The low-carb/high-fat (LCHF) way of eating is healthy for most everyone, diabetic or not.

There's no way for any of us on the forum to know if the numbness in your feet is blood-sugar related. It can be from many different sources. IF it is related to periods of blood sugar spikes, then a low-carb diet should help.

There are loads of things that can cause numbness, and some can cause lasting damage. If it were me, I'd definitely be following up, with this doctor or another, to try to track down the cause, and look beyond diabetes.

+1. If your feet hurt badly and it's not diabetes as you thought, then it must be something else and your care provider should be working with you to identify what it is.

Given that mobility and exercise are such important components of good health, you should bug your doctor, if you need to, to investigate further.

Oh, and welcome to the forums!
