Baking soda helping with my BS but not sure why and if I should continue using it

Hello, I am pre-diabetic and been working to keep my daily blood sugar numbers down, my biggest problem is the dawn phenomenon I can go to sleep with a blood sugar of 97 and wake up at 121, then my concerns are what to eat for breakfast to avoid it going up any higher. I tried apple cider vinegar at night and that doesn't seem to help but someone told me to try baking soda and wow that works, not sure why but it works. I can have a bs of 129 then drink one teaspoon of baking soda with water and within an hour or so my bs 87, so I started taking it at night and the past few mornings I been waking up with a BS 0f 108 or so but my concerns is, taking baking soda daily like this is this gonna create another problem and I would like to get a better understanding of what is the baking soda doing to push my BS down..... Any suggestions or recommendations??

Never heard of this. Maybe your dr can help.

I have never heard of this before. When I did a search for it this morning, I found several articles like this https://www.empowher.com/community/a...ce-blood-sugar

it says something about being an acid reducer which confuses me because apple cidar vinegar is used because it is an acid.

clearly, i need to learn more about acids, when are they good? when are the bad? lol

I've read that ACV and lemon juice, although acidic, when metabolized, have an alkalizing effect in the body. Here is one source

Seems to me its just one more fad. I think that trying to stick to low carb is a better option. How long would the effect last, in any case, it would go through the system and then gone... you'd be having to check your BGL several times after drinking it, to be certain of its effect. I could imagine having to drink it (eww) a few times a day, to keep your BG level. How much, a teaspoon in 500ml? a tablespoon in 300?

My Grandmother took " a dose of soda" at least once a day and didn't die till she was in her mid 90's. I'm convinced it was good for her. Bicarbonate of soda cures any indigestion I ever have. Which I rarely have on the Ketogenic or Modified Atkins diet.
