Default Yet Another Metformin Question

Howdy folks,
I am going on two weeks since the Doc told me about this here afflecton that is going to be my sidekick for a long time . As soon I was told I went low carb and have already lost a few pounds. The VA are my poviders for this and I recived my Metformin a week ago. 500MG X2 a day.

Now here is the 4.5 cent question I have. My A1c was 6.5 but I have no idea what my BGL was prior to being told about my new buddy. With just the diet change It was no higher than 118 and the highest fasting (morning) one I had was 102. One week ago I started the Metformin and the morning test today was 84. I read somewhere on here that it takes 5 to 8 weeks for the Metformin to "do its thing" so to speak. So are my numbers due to an improved diet (LOW low, carb) or the Metformin?

As a side note I have been blessed with very few side effects from the Metformin, other than I have to use the bathroom more and not sure if that is from the meds or increased fiber intake. Thanks any insight would be appreachated.

I'd say the diet is the main reason. It's also the reason the Metformin hasn't given you any issues. But the metformin will definitely help.

Yep, it's the diet for sure. Way too soon for much help from the metformin, I'd think, but you are doing it yourself by eating better.

Good for you! Keep up the good work and maybe you can join us who control by diet eventually!

Low-carb diet makes a tremendous difference QUICKLY, whereas metformin takes several weeks for most of us.

In fact, a very low-carb diet has been shown in randomized controlled trials to be as effective as inuslin therapy in managing severe Type 2 diabetes.
