Well after a long time of waiting I am finally about to start pumping. I moved from west texas back to central texas, got my insurance straight and finally got back to seeing my old endo. Now it only took 6 months to get the initial appointment but now its all good, doctor has a better network of educators. I've had several appointments with the cde nurse and medtronic rep. The pump is being ordered and I only have one more class to attend before I can start pumping. Glad to finally be able to do this, even if I couldn't I'm glad I'm seeing a doctor they has a great network of help. Probably helps that half the staff has diabetes themselves. Doctor and his wife the cde nurse included.

Good news, WB . . . and an exceptional happenstance to have so many medical team members who actually know what you're going through! High hopes for smooth sailing with your pump!

Although you are Type 1 and I am a Type 2, I've struggled for so long to gain even somewhat control of my bg's over the years. I started pumping last October/November and am so glad that I did. First, it is so much better than MDI, and I have much better control of bg's now. I just had my last blood work done at the end of January, and I have managed to get to 7.2% A1C (from 8.6% last September). I have been struggling since early last year to drop from 9.1, to 8.8, and then 8.6. It is frustrating when I see others here lowering their numbers dramatically in 3-5 months, and I'm like crawling down. So the drop from 8.6 to 7.2, and this was through the holiday's, has really made me feel better. The pump is a wonderful thing. If I have to take insulin anyway, this is definitely the way to go.

Good luck. By the way, I use the Animas Pump with Ping Meter. Love it.

I think you will really like pumping. I find it much better than MDI's...and I don't have to carry around all the stuff that I used to. I just need my meter and I'm good to go.

Now, I do have what is referred to as "emergency kits" that contains extra infusion set, extra cartridge set, alcohol wipes, and glucose tabs. I keep one kit in my car, one kit in my office, and I always have a kit that I carry in my tote so its always with me. The kit that is always with me I also keep an extra bottle of test strips. This is recommended by the CDE when I was trained on my pump.

I love using a pump as well because I get much better control on it.

Hope you love pumping as much as I do! Good Luck!

Oh, don't be surprised right away if things aren't much better...it takes adjusting a lot to get to the right combination of basal insulin use.

well i started pumping friday, already doing better, waking up without skyhigh sugars is great, no more over 300, havent woke up over 150 all week. only problems i have actually had havent been with the diabetes but with the damn pharmacy. pharmacy says that the prescribed amount of insulin was a 35 day supply so i had to get 2 vials for 23 days, although clearly on the script in plain freakin english it was written for 3 vials to compensate for the my bolus.
