Default relion test strip alternative testing sites

i'm looking for some low-cost strips, and it seems that relion are the best bet. i called their customer service and asked them about alternative testing sites (i use the forearm -- never finger pricking again!!!). the layd there said, 'no', but when i read about them in other places, they say no problem.

can anyone give me some advice on this? thanks!

I can't get blood from my forearm no matter what I do. I would imagine that the meter doesn't really matter, the accuracy of the test is dependent on how the blood in YOUR forearm relates to your current BG. After all, every BG strip just measures BG, it doesn't have to be "calibrated" for blood from different areas of the body. They say that blood in different areas of the body reflects BG changes at a different rate, which is what you need to watch for.

In short, any strip should work for any site, but you need to test and compare to your fingertips for accuracy with any strips.

I believe all the ReliOn meters, including Prime which has the cheapest strips, provide for alternate site testing (click link & scroll down about halfway to find the key features). One of the manuals does suggest using the fleshy pads on the palms of hands instead of going so far up as the forearm, and also advises in what circumstances fingertip testing is preferable.
Use Fingertip When Testing:
• Within two hours after a meal
• Within two hours after insulin dosing
• Within two hours after physical activity
• If you have a history of hypoglycemia, are experiencing low blood sugar, or suffer from hypoglycemic unawareness
• To confirm your blood glucose level if your AST result is not consistent with how you feel.
• During times of stress or illness.

Consider Alternate Site Testing When:
• Testing before a meal
• You are in a fasting state
• Two hours have passed since a meal
• Two hours have passed since insulin dosing
• Two hours have passed since physical activity
