Does Your Daily Dose Of Lantus Stay The Same
 

I was wondering if everyone takes the same amount of their basal insulin everyday? I take Lantus in the evening at 9PM every night. I was told to take the same amount every day-that is until you find the right dose. I was also taught that you need to take your basal insulin everyday unless you are sick and not eating anything. Anyone heard anything different?

My lantus dose has decreased as my requirements decreased..but I take the same amount everyday whether I have eaten or not. I was up to 80 units daily at one point but was having too many lows so they backed my dosage down some.

When I first began insulin, I started at 10 units Lantus, then increased every 3 days until I found my ideal dose. I started eating lower carb in the same timeframe, so as my body began to adjust, I was able to back down on the Lantus. Although I took up to 24 units, I am now at 18, which seems to be just right based on an average of my fasting blood glucose readings.

I have been back on Lantus since October 2009. I started out at 60 units and increased my dose by 2 units every 3 days until my fasting blood sugar was within range. Recently, I have been experiencing lows and just wondered what other people taking Lantus were dosing. I am insulin resistant and require a much higher dose than you. We are all different.
