Perhaps part of the answer lies in the Swedish model, where its so successful . Obviously political systems, as reflected by their health care schemes also have a big influence.

That more or less leaves us with the most dangerous weapon in the world, an idea. If the 'idea" is spread through good results, education at all levels and publicity, it may reach a critical mass and become an accepted fact.

*** I think that in Sweden it caught on because many women used it for weight loss. As people are the same all around the world I suppose that it will be through women that the "idea" will be propelled.

I can but endorse what the others have said.

Big business wants us to eat their specially prepared junk (word used advisedly) food (word used inadvisedly) and then use their expensive drugs to try and compensate for the result.

Some months back a new member of the forum asked me if I ate low carb. My response was "yes, I see no logic in swallowing poison and then trying to use an antidote to correct it." And I stand by that sentiment.

When I was first DXd I knew enough to leap into the LCHF WOE. I also knew I was going to need an online forum to help me long-term. So I went hunting and selected this forum as my new 'home'.

Partly because other forums that do largely support LCHF seem to be struggling. I saw a lot of "The only valid post-prandial test is at two hours, it is a waste of time and test strips to test earlier". Well, sorry, I am fortunate to be able to afford all the Relion strips I want. And my testing had already proved, in my case, the spike happens at about 1 hour. 2 hours is good - it tells me my Phase Two insulin release can usually finish the clean-up. But it does not show the spike.

I read (and even participate in) their discussions. But this is home.

Oh, and as has been said...the Moderators here are careful, judicious, and danged hard-working. Threads get guided back to the main topic or closed very quickly, trouble-makers are given time to prove they are trouble then are banned, when the rules get stretched or broken hands are quickly slapped (ouchie).

Wow guys, great replies. I guess I'm surprised but not shocked this kind of thing goes on. I suppose the fact that anyone would try to supress the truth or fact gives validity to It's authenticity. Corporations are people, greedy people, money is the root of all evil yada, yada.

I can only imagine how much pressure doctors feel to keep the status quo, much respect to those who don't.

For some reason this reminds me of the propaganda commercials big corn put out when everyone was bashing high fructose corn syrup. Happy smiley commercials"come on guys, It's just sugar, It's the same as regular sugar!"

They know they can't suppress lc/hf forever, theyre just trying to protect profits for as long as possible. By the look of it theyre doing a decent job, but thank god for the internet.

Oh, I am more than half expecting a sea-change in the next year or so.

Reason? The rising rates of obesity, non-D metabolic syndrome, and T2s. I think eating the SAD is catching up with us.

One scenario is, SAD leads to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (with a steadily increasing rate of DXs - called by some the biggest epidemic in the US) leads to non-alcoholic fatty pancreas disease (and heart, and lung, call it fatty internal organs or visceral fat) leads to insulin resistance leads to metabolic syndrome sometimes leads to malfunctioning pancreas/liver leads to T2 diabetes.

Of course, NAFLD/NAFPD is not - is totally, utterly not - the only cause of T2 and Metabolic Syndrome. But I suspect there is a tidal wave just off-shore made up of people who are suddenly going to realize they are in trouble - that weight is only part of their worries ..... and some/many will realize eating a 'balanced' diet with plenty of fruit, whole grains, and PUFAs is just not fixing the problem.

Some - hopefully many - of them will find their way to LCHF.

One of my hobbies is going to pubmed and choosing a 2008 LC study. You know, the kind that begins by saying 'We limited carbs to 120/day and we saw bad results'. I then choose a researcher and look at the body of their work since the 2008 study. It is amazing how many change from the idiocy above to 'We limited carbs to 30/day and the results were breath-taking' or 'It is known that LCHF improves this or that condition'. The dietary scientific world is changing. Oh, I know. Not all of it.

I hope those poor drowning people do get the word and find their way to true LCHF. Otherwise, pretty soon, we may be among the healthiest people on the planet!

Yeah, but imagine the economic changes which will be required! America already grows WAY more grain than we can possibly eat. We give it away and store it in huge quantities. Millions of acres in the center and West will have to be restored to their original state as prairies for animals to graze on. General Mills and Post will go bankrupt - will their be a bailout on the horizon?
