They should really create a section for type 2 because it is a little different I think but I am still learning. Well in the time since I found out I totally stopped the sugar. Nothing and check the sugar count in everything and with this change I have lost 12 lbs and feel like I am wasting away at 172 lbs and 6'1.5" I am still dropping and not sure of the bottom. I eat a lot of tuna salad, fish, turkey, chicken with lots of greens. I also cut back on milk and drink Almond milk but you have to watch the sugar - I found unsweetened once and just use a little Stevia to sweeten it a little. I also have yogurt every morning with blueberries a little granola and iso whey protien and add a little Stevia as I get the lowest sugar content in the yogurt possible usually 6grams but I have found some with only with only 3. Do you check your blood often. I do and if I think I am high I hit the bike or go for a good walk. Definitely in better shape now. I find a half hour on the bike and I can drop from 180 to 100. I hope this helps a little.
i am doing what you are doing. my Dr. wanted to put me on meds but i asked for 90 days. i haven't been to a Dr in 8-10 years so i don't know how long i have been diabetic, that scares me.

i have cut my bg about in half and lost 10lbs in 30 days. i just wish that i could find out what is happening in my body. what is known for sure seperated from speculation. my next meeting with the Dr. in 60 days i am going to push for more answers.
You are definitely on the right track - at your stage it's all about food control and exercise. Think it is like that for all of us. I would keep a list of questions and keep searching the Internet for information and diet information. If I don't write down my questions I end up forgetting some of them when in the doctors office so I keep a running list of questions.

I did not argue to much about going on meds after a month especially after reading about what kind of damage can occur. Have you had our eyes checked that was my big concern at the start. I wish you the best on control without meds. I remember when my doctor sent me to do a glucose stress test and was told they could not do it because my bg was too high and I could go into shock - that scared me. My doctor told me I need to eat the same kind of diet as a peasant who does not know what sugar is. Doc also said not to drink stuff with Splenda because it could make you depressed but i do not following that as there are no other choice.s as the other non sugar sweeteners are not good for diabetics as they still cause a reaction. She basically only approves of STEVIA as a sweetener. What is your blood sugar level?

That's a big change but 170 is still high. Definitely want to get between 90 & 130 and if it means a little Metformin to help it's worth it. I hope you can do it without but don't be surprised if you need a little assistance. My doc is definitely pushing me to stay between 5 & 7 mmol. I did hit a surprising low of 3.1 one morning which is 56. I really hope your successful. Are you much over weight. Me I never was just ate stupid usually only had one meal a day dinner and over ate which was a really dumb way to eat. Now I am to have 5 small meals a day which is big change for me - feels like I am constantly eating from how I used to eat. I will be really curious on your progress and hope you stay connected here. CHEERS

Congrats on your progress, and not cheating is huge. That's wonderful your wife is a good cook and supportive.

Are you eating fruit? That's one of the things I had to give up, and the most painful. I tried (hard!) to keep fruit in my diet but the turning point was when 1/2 grapefruit spiked me 50 pts. Lots of diabetics who can't tolerate fruit can have a modest amt of berries w/out spiking - I'm one of those.

I'd recommend testing your blood sugar before, 1 hour after, and then 2 hours after eating this breakfast if you haven't already. That would spike me to the moon. I'll assume you're putting milk on it - another carb that I've had to give up.

If you want to do this w/out medication, I'd suggest counting the number of carbs you eat in a day. If your numbers don't continue to fall, you will have to reduce carbs if you have a chance of getting there.

i have been watching my numbers and weight fall and following my dietitions recomendations for now. when i don't see them dropping then i will start to reduce carbs on my own. i don't get much of a spike with that breakfast.
