Default Permanent Cure for Diabetes Type 2

Hi

My father is having typ2 2 diabetes for past 10 years now.
Till now he managed to avoid Insulin by proper diet control but now he is finding it difficult and has moved onto Insulin.

Recenting i read an article in newspaer saying that for obese people having Type 2 diabetes Gastric Bypass was done which not only cured theh obesity but also irradicated Diabetes as well.

This treatment works for non obese person as well.

i went and met the doctor and they tell me that by aproscopy they do some intestional rearrangement which cures diabetes permanently.

I wanted my father to go for this operation but not sure how many people have already tried this or not? whether this eorks or not?

BTW teh doctors sound very confident that the patient can be permanently cured in this way.

Hello psingh:

This is definitely not a surgery to be taken lightly since some Patients do die as a result.

According to a detailed video I saw, approximately 90% of Diabetic Patients are cured if they have had Diabetes for 5 years or less. Permanently?? Perhaps. This procedure has only been performed sinced 1993, I think.

If they have had Diabetes for 10 years or more then the Diabetes will be improved and will be more easily controlled but they will still have it. I doubt Very much that they would use this surgery on slimmer People just to get rid of the Diabetes because it is a dangerous procedure and expensive.

I have seen many programs speaking of this procedure and it is usually successful.

I wish your Father Well.

Hi Terrie,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Can you provide me with more references on this surgery?

I'll get more details from my doctor. What he told me was that it won't be gastric bypass and he will do some intestinal rearragment and that should solve the problem.

It doesn't sound very logical to me that some arrangement will solve this problem and that too permanently.

I'm in a state of dilemma as to what shoudl be done ..I can't see the detriorating health of may father and i would want to help my father.

Rgds,
Pankaj

I think they will have a cure for both types of diabetes within the next 10 years. Mark my words.

Hello Pankaj:

I can certainly understand your mixed feelings about your Father going through this surgery. I would hope that his Dr. just didn't explain things clearly to you about the procedures.

I accidently ran across 4 related videos which explained everything and showed what the surgeon was doing inside the Obese Diabetic's body during the procedure. I found the videos Very interesting. An Endocrinologist was asking the Surgeon questions as he was doing the surgery.

I learned that they have to do the Intestinal Rearangement first(it takes about an hour)before they do the next surgery.

With the Intestinal Rearrangement, they just sew up gaps between the intestines and a couple other techniques. I'm not a Medical Person but I have to agree with you that just doing that surgery would not benefit the Patient much.

The stomach has to be stapled(or banded)to make the stomach into a small pouch in order for the Patient to lose weight because then they cannot eat much thus relieving the body of Diabetes.

I was going to put the links on here but it seems I was unable to get the links. Perhaps those videos were not meant for public viewing. I will try to find how I got to that site and bring the videos on if I am allowed to.

Do ask your Father's Dr. if he will be doing more than just the Intestinal Rearrangement.

Thanks for the interesting video Richard. Wouldn't it be Nice if we could all have the surgery to get rid of Diabetes? Actually, some Diabetics would say No to it since they love food alot. I had heard that some People actually stretched the little pouch left of their stomach by eating too much somehow and gaining weight back. Not all of it, I imagine. Nothing is impossible, I guess.

Okay Polito....we are marking your words.

Thanks a lot folks for all your valuable input.

I managed to get appointment to the doctor who would be operating.

I guess i will now be better prepared and can ask him the right questions.

My big concern is that this being a very recent development is it possible that the doctor is treating my father for clinical trial without telling him what he is about to do ..

To be treated like a guinea pig without you being aware of it is a bad feeling..

I'm not sure what you mean.

Firstly, if you do not feel comfortable with your Father's Dr., then please get a second opinion from another Dr. There is no need for anyone to be a guinea pig in these surgeries since the first ones were done(I believe) in 1993/94. Then improved upon through the years. I would presume that the Drs. in India are aware of most of the newer techniques. You're Welcome!

I haven't found the original links that I was going to put on here but here is another site that explains the surgeries. In these cases, the Intestinal Rearrangement is done after the bypass.

Warning: The second video shows the operation on the inside of the body.

IABS - Gastric Bypass

Best of Luck on your Father's decision and end results, whichever he decides.
