Question how to lower morning glucose?

I have had a lot of problems with not getting enough sleep because of the blood sugars released early in the morning. I even started taking an antidepressant just to let me sleep..... then they tell me it is some what addictive....

The other day I tried not eating breakfast and my bg went up even more with out food or meds!

So is the only way to stop my body from releasing so much energy too early would be to just to eat less the day before? Or maybe I have to not eat food in the morning until I do some serious exercise? I rode my cargo bike to town with out food twice in the past week and felt good, no hunger until after noon.

If so I need to find some kind of food that will keep me from craving food at night. Maybe some kind of powdered rocks?

I can't fallow recipes or diets. I have been eating much less carbs (until I went to the food bank) but can't get past that craving for something. I could eat cheese with egg and peanut butter all the time, but that really adds up to fat fast. And if it is the amount of calories that keeps me BGs up....

I would try green slime if I thought it had any real effect on diabetes. maybe I can grow my own.

I do intend to start growing tempeh again as soon as my land lords get on the power grid....oh boy that will be nice to have unlimited electricity after 7 years... is that all? Seems like much longer.

When I got out of the hospital after a heart attack several years ago, I did not crave food, and since I could not find anything that was safe to eat, I just went into a ketosis state and burned off 5 lbs a week for three months. Unfortunately the idiot medical industry did not know anything about it. Now that they know, they still do not approve of it.

I just got a good book about carb counting. But as usual it has way too much industrial food listings, and I could not find Chia seeds or Stevia in it. (10 years old) more wasted money.

It probably would help to understand what's going on in the mornings. The liver, which has stored excess glucose for just such an occasion, secretes glucose into the blood stream as one of the mechanisms of waking the body up. Non-diabetics will have an accompanying insulin response. Not so the diabetic. Additionally, the liver may not get the signal to stop dumping out glucose until it finally senses that it's not needed - usually because one eats something. So eating a little something with fat and protein first thing in the morning might work.

Where does the liver get its stores? From the carbs eaten previously. Its not the amount of food per se, but the amount of carbohydrates. Some find that eating plenty of fats and very low carbs will deplete the liver of most of its stores. This is how I handle it. Others find that a protein and/or fat snack at night will lower FBG.

One thing that experience will tell is that keeping daytime BG low and stable will, eventually, impact FBG. It may not, however, prevent the morning rise of DP but, at least for me, it keeps the rise from going very high. Everyone's body is different, so some experimentation is in order.

The meal threads here Diabetes Diet and Nutrition might be helpful for you to browse through. No recipes. Good ideas, though. Some require no or little cooking.

its not... its a fact that FAT does not raise BG. Protein does a little and carbs to a lot.... NOT FAT.

Skip the peanut butter unless its homemade. Its good in very small amounts but there are carbs (about 2TBSP = 6 carbs. )

ok I will be eating a lot more cheese and olive oil, and actuly try not to eat thing like bananas and bread.....

I really ned a good book on how to kik the cab habit. counting carbs does not work for me. I was looking at this book, but I am not doing insulin yet.

Carbs create an addiction. And reducing carbs will bring on cravings. They can last a few days to a week or so. If you are aware of this, and treat it like detox, it is a bit easier to tough it out.

I think that prior planning is important, as well as cleaning out carby things from the house and stocking up on low-carb and fatty foods. Even making out menus is helpful to getting the mindset on the change in lifestyle. And then pick a day and begin.

For myself, I started eliminating obvious carby foods like breads and pasta and extra sugar for a couple weeks ahead of time. I knew from prior experience that I would hit the point where my body started calling for carbs. It lasts about three days for me. During that time I drank plenty of water, and increased salt intake to offset the loss of electrolytes. (The salt really helps.)

It is so much better on the other side.

(The cravings are just like a spoiled child. There will be temper tantrums, but its a no-win to give in to it. )

The Atkins Induction/Phase I diet is perfect for starting out with low-carb. Their website has a list of foods to choose from for that phase. https://www.atkins.com/how-it-works/...low-carb-foods You just choose from that list - the carbs are already calculated for you.

Although it doesn't push fats, filling up on fats works perfectly for maintaining good BG levels.
