Did anyone use Amaryl 1MG to control blood sugar level in type-2 diabetes mellitus?

It is a commonly prescribed medication (glimepiride) for Type 2's to stimulate insulin secretion. From what I've heard it does a good job forcing your pancreas to put out more insulin, needed or not and can cause low BG. It also comes with along with some other potential, not so nice, long term baggage.

I have never taken it and from what I have read about it and all the other meds that increase insulin production, directly or indirectly, I personally would never take them. I did take Januvia and Janumet early on in my career of being Type 2, but never, ever, again.

Being Type 1, have you had any dealings with it?

Think I've had this since 2003. Told I was Type 2 lean on 2/13/12.

Jack, I'm curious why you are wanting to take this Type2 medication. When I looked it up it doesn't appear to be anything a Type 1 diabetic should be given.

AMARYL is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus [see Clinical Studies].

Important Limitations Of Use
AMARYL should not be used for the treatment of type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis, as it would not be effective in these settings.

Most of the designer diabetes meds are not intended for type 1 diabetics because they affect how the pancreas works and your pancreas isn't working. If you are using a lot of insulin and you have a good diet, then metformin is often suggested because that works on the LIVER not the pancreas.

I do not recommend ANY designer drugs until all other options, including insulin, have failed to help you control your diabetes. Other than metformin, most have shown negative, permanent side effects with long term usage. In addition, if you are elderly, you need to look at what the side effects are of your drugs because of the risk of falls, which can be life changing.
