while I was getting my health in shape , I was doing intermittent fasting 1 day a week. (24 hour fast).

since I got myself under control and my diabetes is managed without medication, i no longer do intermittent fasting. I am strict keto and that lets me keep my blood sugar under 100 all the time.

I think intermittent fasting is a good thing and definitely helps with diabetes .

my evening glucose reading was 6.6 after a day of breaking my fast. If it stays this good, I'll be ecstatic.

I find I have more cravings with an eat less/do more diet than I do with a fast. I've heard some people that don't do well on a 16/8 might do better on a 36 hour or 42 hour fast. I'm going to do a few days of 16-20hr fasts while I figure out what I want to try for a few weeks. The IDM recommends only one 7day fast per month, or one 14day fast per 6weeks. I'm definitely going to schedule one of them into my calendar.

I know that I would do well on a 36 hour fast. How do I know? Had to do it when prepping for a colonoscopy which ended up being in the afternoon instead of the morning. My BGLs dropped into the 5-6 range and stayed there all week after the procedure. I didn't require insulin at all during that time but kept taking metformin (though not during the fast). Now all I need is the will to see it through.

I read an article on ketogenic diets where they outright revommended that you take metformin to help stay in ketosis.

many people that are in a state of ketosis are not diabetic and not taking metformin

I am a diabetic, I am in ketosis and dont take metformin.

the article might have had a motive for saying that but I don't feel thats true

I've come to trust your opinion. I'll have to review how meformin works and see if that leads anywhere.
