Default CMG guidance welcomed

I am Type 1 diabetic diagnosed 1 year ago, living in the USA. I take multiple daily injections of Levemir and Novolog and these medicines are prescribed to me by a doctor. I lack health insurance coverage. It interests me to try a Continuous Glucose Meter. I can afford a meter but I am on a tight budget.
  1. What CGM models can people suggest most?
  2. Do CGM's require a smart phone with a data connection?
  3. Can CGM's be dangerous?
  4. How much can CGM help improve your health?
  5. How much more expensive is a CGM compared to using test strips?
  6. How accurate are CGM's compared to a manual meter?

From what I have read about CGM's they are a game changer and people like the results. However I feel like if I purchase a CGM the next day they will announce the release of some new and better version!
