Default fishy smell of Metformin ER

My generic version of extended release Metformin has a fishy smell.
I know the immediate release form of Metformin in does but should the extended release form?
My pharmacist has never heard of that problem (I think she meant with any form of Metformin which is not reassuring).

I wasn't aware that it had a fishy odor. I don't know that I've ever smelled of my metformin, but I have had a metal-like taste when I take it with certain foods, I swallow my pills with food.

Now that I have searched for it and found that it is known that some brands of metformin do have a fishy odor, I'm gonna have to go smell my bottle. Oh, and in the info I read said that the extended release version should have less of an odor.

My olfactory senses are not very good, compared to my wife's, so I don't smell many things that she does. You probably have her sense of smell. However, neither she or I smell anything in my bottle of metformin.

Mine is getting worse.
I'll take it in and ask.

Wow, I never noticed this! I just stuck my nose in my current bottle of Metformin ER and it has a very strong fishy odor. I tried the newer bottle that I haven't started using yet and it has less of an odor.

I noticed it in mine when I was taking just the metformin, haven't noticed it at all in the Janumet. Of course, my nose has been stopped up the past day, but I can still smell my AM coffee!
