Default BG After Golf

I usually walk 2.2 miles about 90 minutes after dinner each night and my bg drops pretty good. Last night my bg got up to 140 after diner and then dropped to 88 after the walk. I walk at a fast pace.

After walking nine holes tonight, which took two hours, my bg was 160. I never see levels that high. I golf in a league each week and always walk and my levels are always a little high, around 125, when I'm done. Any idea why my bg would spike so high after walking nine holes? Could it be anything to do with adrenaline? Im pretty competitive on the links, and tonight was for the league title. I'm type 2 and not on any meds. Last a1c was 6.0. Thanks.

Exercise will spike you if your glycogen reserves are full or on the higher side. That is not to say that exercise is not beneficial. Spike or not it has all the other benefits including a gradual decline in BG levels later.

I usually walk 3-5 miles most days at a good pace . My bg usually spikes anywhere from 10-40 points. within a few hours it usually does come down. I also play in tennis leagues a couple times a week. It is always in the morning which tends to be the worst for my bgs. I usually eat a high protein/high fat breakfast before I go. I bring nuts, seeds or low carb energy bar to eat a bite between sets. That seems to satisfy my liver not to dump glucose during those 2 hours of exercise. I am competitive, too.

I don't golf, but I know exactly what you're talking about. I would think a 6 pack on the back 9 would also affect BG levels.

I walk in 9 hole league every Wed, I have only played twice since dx, 1st time number was down very slightly after, second week it was up from mid 60s to high 90s, I'm gonna check every week to see if I can figure out a pattern
