Hi my name is jose i live in Houston, Texas. Im 26 years old. And this sort of a rant post. First i wanna thank all the people in this forum, this forum has changed my life. i have i havent completely been thru the diabetes 101 website im still in shock and havent completely accepted my condition but i do check my self thru out the day and seen the affect of food on my body. Thank every one. we may never get rid of it but we will never up. A quote that i have found inspirational its by a mexican general during the mexican revolution. Its better to die your feet, than to live on your knees. Emiliano Zapata.

Hi Jose,

Welcome to the forum, or out of lurkdom as the case may be! Glad you took the time to introduce yourself. Tell us a little more about yourself ie numbers at diagnosis, what meds, if any you are taking and what you are doing to bring things under control. The more we know, the more we can help in offering suggestions.

Yes, better to be on your feet instead of knees, but for myself, I want to go peacefully in my sleep at say 105 years or more of age!!

Good to meet you, Jose. You are taking charge of your diabetis and that's always a good thing.

To get a better idea of how foods affect your blood sugar levels, you might want to be a bit more systematic in your testing.

Before a meal tells you where you are at that point in time.

1 hr after first bite tells you how high the food you ate spikes (or doesn't spike) your blood sugar.

2 hr after first bite tells you if your BG is coming back down to where it was before you ate.

One word about your daughter. The best thing you can do is to get good control, and to relax about the fact that you have diabetes. It's not the worst thing that can happen to a person. If she sees you dealing with this condition in a calm manner, then if she does develop it in the future it will not be a scarry thing for her. Just something for you to think about.

Yeah i know i also think there are good thing and i look around and realize there is some stuff i wont have control over and even if the chances of complications were less i might somehow still loose in the long run i a have a friend who was in a car accident and lost his hand and his dad. Only time can tell. I have to calm down and count my blessings.
