Default CT scan, metformin XR, renal failure

Anyone have any experience / problems with CT scans & metformin XR 48-hr proscription?

I'm scheduled for a CT scan next week. Instructions say to stop Metformin for 48 hrs post-scan (used to also require 48 hrs pre), plus renal blood work prior to reinstating Metformin. This is because apparently you can have renal failure due to Met/radioactive iodine tracer interaction.

People at the imaging office said it didn't matter that Metformin stays in system during the 48 hr 'prohibited' period.

I'm currently taking 2000 Met XR daily, thinking of at least bumping it down before and eating/exercising especially well prior to the scan.

I'd love to get input from anyone with experience or expertise on this.

Thanks

Found some stuff on Blood Sugar 101 & other reputable sources. Doesn't look so threatening now, as my kidney function is just fine. Still, I'll be cautious with diet etc during this period.

But I'm still interested in hearing from anyone with experience.

I hadn't heard about the post-procedure thing, but I have gone off my metformin several times in advance of these scans and other surgical procedures.
