It seems to me that if you aren't going to stop taking the combo pill until you get a met-only prescription, then you need to eat enough carbs to "cover" the insulin. Snacks and meals with very little carbs may not be enough and you'd still go low.

It will be a juggling act for you for now. You'll need to monitor your BG closely after taking your combo pill.

Re: the A1C - I should think that it would be lows that the doctor would be looking at when deciding if the G should be dropped.

I can't add much that others haven't already said except that you need to arrange to have "comfort food" always around just for you. As I came to grips with my situation and was helping to educate my family - I told them I had a new definition of the term comfort food. Comfort food used to be fried chicken and mashed potatoes - mac + cheese - cherry pie - etc.

Now comfort food is having LCHF foods always around the house to help me stay on target. I feel more comfortable having it around

And that even means that most weekends I make a large one pot meal that goes into the fridge. Then its there for lunches and should I need an alternate meal or small healthy dollop to keep going.

I'm not having wild swings but I'm only on a 5mg dose of Glipizide, but I'm pretty sure its what is constantly pushing me low(er). Especially when I exercise I can feel pretty woozy and sapped.

Try to get your doc to at least decouple the metformin and the glipizide and cut your glipizide dose in half .... as a test for a few weeks. Good luck
