Default Dodged another bullet today

Well I have been in total freak-out mode for close to 2 weeks .... picture a chimp in a cage screeching and doing back flips all day. Thats been my mental state.

On a routine visit to my doc 2 weeks back he said the ADA put out new rules and guidelines on autonomic neuropathy - specifically damage to the heart - being upgraded to a really serious condition. Really serious. And I have between mild to moderate neuropathy in my feet. Cue the flipping chimp.

Last Tuesday I was tested and got the results today. Out of the 4 different tests only one showed a slight degradation. Just off of normal. So I'm somewhere between normal and slight degradation. The chimp is currently taking a break - still need to get my eyes checked.

I've never broke down in the docs office but I did today.

I've sort of stumbled my way to mostly healthy diet but now with the help of this site and community I'm moving forward with more knowledge and commitment. And of course if you were doing the ADA approach then more autonomic damage is pretty much a reality.

There is so much out there that is scary; I think your doctor freaking you out like that was uncalled for. Diabetes can lead to some very very serious consequences. You are taking your health into your hands and control. You are making the right decisions for you. I agree wholeheartedly with you that the ADA will lead diabetics to suffer those consequences. I've had my share of freak-outs in the doctors offices. I've gone the route of being on an insulin pump and eating lchf, however I'm human and do mess up (quite a bit lately).

Keep calm and know that you can correct some of what has happened (if it isn't too severe). Neuropathy can get better with better control. Eye sight can become less blurry with better control. Keep learning and doing what you've learned here. Things will be better.

Renee - Thanks for words of hope and encouragement. My docs a good guy and he was a bit taken back by my reaction - but also supportive and happy for me. I blew him off for years on this stuff, I think now he understands I'm turning it around.

One day at a time.

If you haven't got your eyes checked yet the latest thing is retina mapping. They have a machine that scans and records your retinas. This gives a permanent record to compare future visits to.
